Rental property listing scams typically aim to steal money from prospective renters. Fraudsters use popular websites that assist landlords in finding and screening tenants, signing leases, and collecting rent. They post fraudulent 'for rent' ads, attempting to get victims to pay a security deposit or move-in fee without ever seeing the apartment or rental unit. Below is a tutorial posted by one of the fraudsters we follow on social media, demonstrating the ad deployment process from registering a phone to creating an account and listing a property. #FinancialCrime #FinCEN #FraudPrevention #DataAnalysis #data #money #markets #banks #bank #syntheticidentity #banking #fraud #onlinefraud #fraudprevention #illicittrade #identitytheft #financialinstitutions #financialcrime #identitytheftprotection #bankaccount #driverslicense #marketing #debitcard #address #business #smallbusiness #onlinefraud #fraudprevention #fruaddetection #ssn #fullz #darkweb #darkwebmonitoring #checks #dropaccounts #dropaccount #usa #research #trend #dl #policy #prevention #reccomendations #socialmedia #financialinstitutions #dropaccount #address #residency #analysis #lawenforcement #report #rent #scam

My wife and I stayed at an Airbnb one time and while she was there by herself, a lady came to the door to inquire about the house for rent. Showed her the listing and they were using the pics from the Airbnb listing to post their rental. We notified the owner and sent him the posting so that he would be aware.
I'll never forget when I was selling my house someone took the listing and put it on Craigslist for rent. I had a random guy come to my house asking me if it was for rent for $500 a month. Then he showed me the listing.
Very informative, thank you for sharing!

3wThis is a huge problem for the #multifamily and #singlefamilyhomes industry David Maimon. Was even talking to a bunch of ILSs this week at OpTech that called this exact thing out. Am I correct that these fruadsters don't actually have possession (keys) to the unit, and aren't actually subletting it, but rather are simply trying to get some quick cash from scamming these would be renters before disappearing?
