The number of cyberattacks against businesses continues to grow, and AT&T has been added to the list of victims. Nearly all customers of the telecommunications giant were affected by a security breach with their call and text records downloaded by a third-party platform. The breach occurred in April 2024 but wasn't announced until July. On July 12, 2024, AT&T said its breach did not include personally identifiable information, such as Social Security numbers. AT&T provided additional details about the incident in an 8-K filing. The FBI released a statement: "In assessing the nature of the breach, all parties discussed a potential delay to public reporting ... due to potential risks to national security and/or public safety." An anonymous hacker said AT&T paid them $370,000 to delete data from these stolen records, according to a report from Bloomberg. This is not AT&T's first attack in 2024. The company faced another breach in March 2024, where data was leaked on the dark web. AT&T said the information leaked was AT&T data-specific fields and offered credit monitoring services to those affected. Honey pots or Evil twin Wi-Fi is one of the many reasons why #Cybersecurity professionals tell you not to use free or public #WiFi. Our need to be connected and always online sometimes makes us forget this.So we do this out of "necessity". If you really must use free wifi at least get trained up to identify potentially fake connections, don't use online banking or connect to any applications that require you to hand over credentials or other PII data. Better yet, use a VPN or SASE connection. It's another one of those cases of "it'll never happen to me". But it's likely more common than you think. #SecurityTraining

Free public Wi-Fi may seem appealing, but it can also expose your data to hackers. To protect your online security, follow these 6 tips when using public Wi-Fi: [1] Don’t access sensitive services Don’t do online banking, make financial transactions, or enter personal information on public Wi-Fi networks. [2] Turn off file sharing Turn off file sharing on your devices to stop unauthorized access to your files. [3] Turn off auto-connect Turn off the auto-connect feature to prevent joining unknown or unsecured networks by mistake. [4] Only access HTTPS websites Make sure the websites you visit have a secure HTTPS connection, shown by the padlock icon in the address bar. [5] Use a VPN Use a VPN (virtual private network) to encrypt your online traffic, hiding your data from hackers. [6] Watch out for rogue networks Avoid public Wi-Fi networks with strange or misleading names, as they could be traps set by cybercriminals. Check the network’s legitimacy before connecting. Public Wi-Fi is convenient. But remember, it also comes with risks.

Free, a major internet service provider (ISP) in France, confirmed over the weekend that hackers breached its systems and stole customer personal information. The company, which says it had over 22.9 million mobile and fixed subscribers at the end of June, is the second-largest telecommunications company in France and a subsidiary of the Iliad Group, Europe's sixth-largest mobile operator by number of subscribers. Free has since filed a criminal complaint with the public prosecutor and notified the French National Commission for Information Technology and Civil Liberties (CNIL) and the National Agency for the Security of Information Systems (ANSSI) of the incident.
