Great to hear of Shogun's huge Emmy wins via The Japan Times! Not only is it the first non-English Drama to win Best Drama, but walked away with an actual record-breaking 18 total awards. That's phenomenal. Japan has a long history of captivating audiences worldwide with its storytelling capabilities that combine its own cultural history with universal themes. This is precisely what CarterJMRN strives to support: helping brands understand the cultural nuances that fuel their future successes, often enough by understanding and appreciating Japanese entertainment. #Japan #Entertainment #FX #Shogun #Drama #Emmys

Shogun, an essentially Japanese language TV series, has won the most Emmys in this year’s awards, including the big ones Outstanding Drama Series, and Lead Actor and Actress in a Drama Series. A true East x West endeavor, the show became a huge global phenomenon. Much like Netflix’s Squid Game, Shogun once again proves that certain East Asian topics, with its authenticity, including non English dialogue, can resonate with US and global audiences…and win accolades. It’s difficult to say whether this “trend” can continue. Certainly it requires the decision makers to continue to believe in these works, and commit the budget necessary to bring out the quality. However, I’d like to say almost just as important is the promotion. With so much content out there to choose from, it’s easy for great content to get lost in the shuffle. Fortunately, Shogun had FX’s full support. Kudos to my buddy Lance Reiss for all his promotion work for FX! Looking forward to seeing more successful East x West content! PS Forced East x West content does not work…no more projects like the Great Wall please. #EastxWest #Shogun2024 #EmmyWinner #NonEnglishContent https://lnkd.in/gRi2Ysnw

We now have a Nigerian movie that spoke Korean throughout. They say it's Nigerian Korean Although, it was funny, I didn't believe my eyes. Yesterday was agog with folks saying all kinds of things on the social sphere. Some said the actors are not being themselves. Others asked how did we get here? Some quizzed why can't we appreciate our own language. To get the results that no one else has gotten you have do the things no one else has done. This is true. Film making is not for standing bys. To get all casts speaking a language not taught in the curriculum of things is deserving. Imagine the Koreans being challenged that Nigerians can speak their lingual franca conveniently in movies. I see a rain of collaborations soon. The bag pack here is this: 1. Research and identify gaps in your field 2. Make the lacuna your unique point 3. Position to be seen by those the gap affects 4. Shoot your shot 5. Get feed and replay. What have you learnt recently? Tell us.

DIRECTOR (Voice to Word Consulting) & EXECUTIVE ENGLISH-LANGUAGE CONSULTANT - helping non-native speakers refine & master their communication skills with one-on-one coaching
We were talking about accents and clarity at my presentation last week, so I thought I’d share this to illustrate how complex understanding different accents are. In this video clip (I suggest just the first 2.5 minutes), there are three listeners. One speaks and understands only the standard British English. A second understands the regional accent and can translate it into standard English. The third understands the extremely localized accent and translate it into the regional which is then translated into the standard British. So remember, we all have an accent and sometimes people don’t understand us. My advice is to slow down if you feel the listener is having difficulty understanding you. That gives us time to interpret and process much more easily, and get used to the different “music” of the accent. #ClearSpeech #Accents #Language
