Adobe Summit kicked off yesterday with some BIG announcements on the GenAI front, especially Firefly Services and Custom Models. Both are game-changers, so let’s unpack what they are - and why they matter. Firefly Services provide APIs for content generation, editing and assembly - drawn from our industry leading capabilities in Firefly, Photoshop, and video. That means our customers can automate marketing and content production while maintaining quality and control. Key use cases include localization, onni-channel marketing, and ecommerce. Custom Models enable enterprises to train GenAI models with their IP, product, and brand styles - and then access those trained models everywhere Firefly is integrated. That means our customers can maintain and propagate brand consistency at scale across their organizations, in our apps (from Express to Photoshop) OR via Firefly Services (APIs). I’m super proud of my team’s work enabling developers to onboard, learn, and successfully integrate these new technologies into their company’s workflows. Adobe’s GenAI future is bright. 😎

How to ruin onboarding: Adobe example If you want to test generative fill from Adobe, it will be very difficult to get to the trial. The “Start free trial” button will not let you try the product, but will lead to a confusing multi-step screen with a choice of tariff plans and entering card details. Thanks to Adobe's prominence, it doesn't suffer from poor onboarding. But small products definitely shouldn’t repeat these company mistakes in the design of the first session: 1. Loaded offer - the simpler and shorter your initial offer, the more likely the user will reach the end of the funnel. 2. Complex pricing policy - confusing tariff plans and a complex cancellation process are an easy way to ruin your reputation and complicate the work of support. 3. Fake personalization - an “individual offer” that has nothing to do with the interests of the client - a great way to lose trust and turn away the user. _______ If you simply click on the trial without familiarizing yourself with the pricing policy, then auto-renewal causes further disappointment and a feeling of deception and robbery. Also, familiarization with prices at the first stage reconciles the user; upon repeated consideration, the price does not seem exorbitant or shocking to him; acceptance occurs within a week. I would note that these are powerful tools. A new or little-known product must have an extremely reasonable price in order to sell the product the first time after an easy trial. This greatly reduces the payback time of the product. Have been doing a ton of research on genAI technology and use cases recently. My first instinct is that regarding creative content generation applications, Adobe is going to rule the enterprise world. As a leading creative tools company, Adobe has aggressively released industry leading enhancements into their products that take a very progressive stance on intellectual property and copyright protections. Their suite of additional products around marketing and content management make them strongly positioned as the front-runner in this space. This isn’t to say you can’t take advantage of more focused standalone apps now, in fact each of the tools perform exceptionally better than others depending on the task. Just know Adobe may ultimately release something better than all of them eventually. More detailed comparison of DALL-E, Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, and Firefly coming soon.
