I often think of DevEx as something I can impact as a developer, i.e. making code clear through documentation or refactoring, but this blog post by GitHub discussing the paper "DevEx in Action" goes much further. It discusses what an organization as a whole can do to improve developer productivity, and therefore increase organizational success. It's fascinating to me to think about seemingly mundane changes within an organization which might make a huge impact on productivity. For instance, what if there were no meetings before 1 P.M.? Say a developer has two meetings on a Tuesday, one at 10 A.M. and another at 1 P.M. How might shifting the early meeting to an afternoon slot change the productivity of the developer? Maybe it would be more likely for this developer to enter the "flow state" discussed in "DevEx in Action." This quote sounds more like an ideal than the reality, but I like the idea of it nonetheless: "Minimizing distractions, which can be everything from Slack messages to meetings to peers asking for help is paramount for high-value work. Granted, it’s not always easy to reserve blocks of time, especially in distributed teams across multiple time zones. However, providing your developers an atmosphere where they can maximize their flow state can pay high dividends." While it probably isn't possible to provide employees with the conditions for flow state every day of the week, it seems like a worthwhile investment to try and increase productivity within an organization.

Helping missionaries use modern tools to share more Jesus, get in the field faster, & stay there longer | Air Force Vet | Girl Dad | Branding nerd & mediocre Jesus follower
You know you should be taking better care of your supporters, but you've got a lot going on... 🥵 When done right, those automatic welcome emails you get after subscribing to a new product can help you connect to a brand even more. We're helping missionaries set up automatic welcome emails to take better care of their supporters and build better relationships. A great welcome email series... 1) Thank you for signing up 2) A little more about me 3) Here's a cool YouTube video I found about something we both love Zapier and Make are two cool options for setting up automation. In the end, we went with Make. Like many of our tech choices, we've been bypassing legacy platforms (like WordPress, and Mailchimp) for some of the new kids on the block (Squarespace & Ghost) who have had the opportunity to start from scratch with technology that's more than a decade newer. (Sorry WordPress you're over 20 years old. In computer years, that's like 180...) Great video from Stephen G. Pope

Working with organisations to realise the potential of low-code/no-code tools with the Microsoft Power Platform. By 2024 65% of app dev activity by business & IT will use low-code tools, are you seizing the opportunity?
I really liked this post from Scott Durow on the opportunity for pro-dev's with Power Platform (PP). The perception that Low-Code automatically means Low-Sophistication won't go away anytime soon but you'll see there's a lot more on offer for pro-dev's than you might have thought. A good developer is not measured by the volume of code they write, they're measured by the business impact and value of their work. Every line of code written that doesn't accrue to making the business more effective is wasted code. The focus for Pro-Dev's with PP is to enable them to deliver more business value, faster - through writing less wasted code and more value-add code. Also, let's knock this notion on the head that it's either Low-Code OR Pro-Code, it's both! Use PP to build the scaffolding of solutions (data model, role-based security, business rules) and focus your technical depth on solution architectures, API's, complex calculation, and reusable components. You'll put yourself in a position to drive more business impact, without compromising on ALM discipline, solution scale and quality - the essence of being a great developer. If this post encourages even a single pro-dev out there to sign up for a trial and go check this stuff out, then it's worth the ten minutes I've spent writing it! This is a subject I'll come back to in future posts. #powerapps #powerplatform #powerplatformdeveloper #powerautomate #lesscodemorepower https://lnkd.in/eXNcKYzb
