Over the hours you spent in animation school, 👉How many did you spend learning about the business of animation❓ Most of our time in animation school is focused on learning to use software that will become obsolete within a few short years. (Or that will try to replace us -i.e. Adobe) Then, we spent time learning about the craft; 📺 Rules of visual storytelling 👆 Composition 🌈 Color theory ✏ Design 📖 Art history 🧜♂️ Live drawing sessions However, almost no time is focused on understanding how this business, our eco-system works. Many of you have started your own businesses, whether as freelancers or small studios or are thinking about starting one. Yet, you miss critical information. Imagine a foot doctor in a similar situation: They would know about how the toes wiggle. What kind of shoes to wear? What illnesses can affect your feet, and what treatment to use? But knew nothing how breathing and eating properly is the #1 key for your feet to stay alive. Here, we are in an industry where most people are experts in lighting, movement, modeling, or shading. Yet we have no idea about: ✅How are shows financed? ✅How does distribution work? ✅What are the various production types? Or even: ✅How do you create a scope of work that fits your client's needs, their budget, and your studio capacity? No one teaches this. ✨ This is my #1 motivation! Because I was curious and asked one million questions, I learned a great deal about the industry's inner workings. To share this knows with as many people as possible is my mission. To help small studio owners and aspiring Producers learn the secrets of the trade so they can build sustainable businesses based on valuable services offered to a growing list of potential customers.
