- [Instructor] I can tell you from personal experience, as a designer and developer it's easy to fall into the trap of caring more about style and functionality than substance. There are several good reasons for this. Our jobs are quite literally to care about style and functionality. We know the extent of what is possible with a web platform and always strive to implement the latest and greatest tools and techniques. And, for the most part, we have little control over the actual content. It's usually something handed to us by a different team or other people. This disconnect between style and functionality on one side and substance on the other side can easily create problems with resilience. If we get too caught up in the look and feel of our creations we quickly lose sight of their purpose, which in almost every case is some form of information exchange.
