The Lightning Talks session from yesterday’s Cardiology Innovation Showcase co-hosted by UCSF Innovation Ventures, highlighted several groundbreaking initiatives that aim to transform cardiovascular care by addressing unmet needs identified at the patient's bedside. 1. Eureka Research Platform: Mobilizing large-scale studies Dr. Jeffrey Olgin and his team have developed the Heart eHeart Study and the Eureka Research Platform, revolutionizing mobilized research in cardiovascular health and digital applications. This platform currently hosts 68 studies with over 550,000 participants, demonstrating its potential for managing large-scale research initiatives. 2. Wearable cardiac arrest monitoring and alert systems Professors Zian H. Tseng and Gregory Marcus are tackling the critical issue of cardiac arrest, which has a survival rate of less than 10% and is often unwitnessed. Their innovative approach utilizes Photoplethysmography (PPG) technology, available in common wearables like smartwatches and smart rings, to serve as an "automated witness" for cardiac arrests.
