How can you prepare for public speaking when you are nervous?
There is a famous research by social psychologist Amy Cuddy that reveals a fascinating connection between our body language and our confidence levels. One way to increase confidence and reduce anxiety in public speaking settings is by adopting what she terms 'power poses.' These are expansive, open postures that can physically help in altering our brain chemistry, increasing our assertiveness and decreasing stress. It's quite intriguing how simply standing tall or stretching out your arms can have such a profound impact on how we feel and project ourselves. Definitely a technique worth trying in our next presentation or meeting!
