Another milestone moment in the books! We just wrapped up our kick-off meeting with the U.S. Department of Education. Two days of dynamic collaboration led by our Project Officer, Rebecca Sheffield, brought together diverse perspectives from across the Office of Special Education Programs and beyond. Users with motor disabilities may have difficulty manipulating devices, so avoid relying on orientation (horizontal vs. vertical) or motion-based controls like shaking or swiping to access content. Accessibility Tip 23: Keyboard navigation is a fundamental aspect of web accessibility. The navigation order should follow a logical sequence, with each interactive element clearly highlighted. Test this by using the "Tab" key to navigate forward, "Shift + Tab" to go back, and "Enter" or "Spacebar" to activate links, buttons, or checkboxes. Accessibility Tip 22: A well-crafted page title is key to web accessibility. Page titles should be succinct but descriptive, conveying the purpose of the page in just a few words. Since only a limited number of characters are visible in the browser tab, make sure the most relevant information appears first.
