So excited for you Julia! #FundableFounder
I pitched to Jason Calacanis in front of 70 founders at the Founder University Cohort 9 Kickoff in Redwood City. I was fully prepared to be torn apart, but I was honestly stunned by his positivity and encouragement—for me and for The Event Community. What a win🌟 It took everything I had to step up and pitch. I knew I couldn’t let the opportunity slip, so I just counted down—3, 2, 1—closed my eyes, and raised my hand for the mic. 🎤 We’re only in Week 1 of 12 at Founder University, Here’s what’s I've accomplished so far: 1. Kickoff Event at the Goodwin Redwood City Office - I pitched to Jason and met some incredible founders from Cohort 9 including Mari Soonsoo Bae Jay Makarov Babatunde Fashola Paolo Shamoon Anderson Whittle Zach Castaneda Steven White Alejandro Sandoval Rachael Nelson Al Jairazbhoy Alicia Waldner Yung Spielburg Ricardo Argüello 🇨🇷 🇲🇽 🇺🇸 and Vinay C. an alumni from Cohort 7. Thank you to Kelly Schricker and Lukas Durand for hosting the event and providing pastries (probably the best I've ever had yum) 🥐 2. Joined 350 Founders for Session 1 - Seeing my application video unexpectedly play in the Founder Intros Video was surreal. Out of over 2,000+ applicants, only 10% were accepted for Cohort 9, so I couldn’t help but smile seeing myself up there with the best. 3. Met Twice with LAUNCH Investment Team - Big thanks to Lukas Durand and Kabir Dhillon for taking time to connect with me and learn about The Event Community. As one of the few solo founders in the Cohort, your feedback on my team’s speed, progress, and ideas means a lot. I’m taking it as fuel for the fire. 🔥 4. Connected with Cohort 9 Founders - Had a great call with Alicia Waldner and we’re already collaborating on ways to support each other’s businesses. Looking forward to connecting with Ari Michaelides and to meeting more Los Angeles founders this Friday, November 1, at Founder Fridays—a global series of founder-led meetups powered by This Week in Startups 5. Started Building in Public - I’m pushing myself to share more of the founder journey on socials. My Founder University acceptance post on Instagram & LinkedIn has already hit 3,284 impressions. For those who can relate to the emotional and very personal journey that happens behind the scenes of being a founder, I am currently feeling: Proud... Which is rare. I am in absolute shock with myself, my team's progress, the attention on me and The Event Community, and the crazy amount of connections I've made these last 2 months. There are so many more wins that I haven't been great at keeping up with on LinkedIn, but in the past 2 months I feel like my life, my confidence, and my hunger for success has dramatically changed. I feel proud, and I guess I'll share more about those wins in another post, because this is already getting too long... and I need to get back to building 🔨 Cheers to the start of Founder University Cohort 9 🥂

I don’t even remember when my first Tech Coast Venture Network event was, back when Bart Greenberg was running them mostly, probably around 2008. But that’s where I learned to do 60 second #pitches and eventually even won the $100 prize for one of their pitch competitions! It’s so great to see this organization continue with leaders like Tony Crisp 🚀, Tom Miller, Brandon Carl, and Aaron Klein, with a plan to help first time #founders get #funded! Let’s go! 👏👏👏
