The great outdoors first inspired Dr. Rosa Gwinn to become a scientist. Today, it’s the well-being of communities that continues to drive her success at AECOM. As our Global PFAS Technical Lead, Dr. Gwinn applies her expertise to some of the nation’s greatest contamination challenges. Her work alongside our environmental and water professionals ensures clean drinking water for countless communities well into the future. Now an AECOM Fellow, Dr. Gwinn is mentoring a new generation of equally driven environmental scientists. Barry Wall is a chartered electrical engineer with over 18 years of experience in the design and implementation of large-scale energy infrastructure projects. Today, he works as a technical director based in Ireland, leading our teams of experts from Dublin, Cork and the United Kingdom to deliver major energy projects across the region. One of the highlights of his career has been designing a high voltage substation connected to an offshore wind farm project in Ireland. The project started as a small commission, but as challenges arose — such as site contamination, proximity to a river, and a motorway that the cable route would need to pass under — our experts from across regions and business lines were brought in to help deliver solutions. By leveraging our global expertise, Barry and his team delivered a project that will provide up to 800 megawatts of clean, renewable energy to the Irish transmission system. While at WEFTEC 2024, our Global Industrial Water Practice Director, Lucy Pugh, P.E., BCEE, joined industry leaders in responding to one of today’s most pressing environmental challenges — PFAS contamination. Moderating two panels, she and other experts discussed existing obstacles and the solutions under development that are getting closer to tackling this complex issue. Patricia Ribó Sörensen first joined us 11 years ago as a design manager, working on a wide range of projects from airports to train stations and more. After delivering two successful major terminal projects, her role expanded from leading her team in Madrid to becoming our aviation lead for Europe and India. Today, Patricia connects our clients with our teams of experts from across the globe — such as our baggage handling team in the U.S., our architecture teams in the UK and Spain, our airport signage team in Singapore, and our acoustics team in Australia — ensuring they receive the very best of AECOM, no matter where they are. Plans have been unveiled for the UK’s largest heat network that could supply thousands of businesses and iconic buildings in the heart of London. We have been collaborating with the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) to develop a trailblazing scheme that could save buildings in Westminster — such as the Houses of Parliament and National Gallery — 92% of CO2 emissions compared to current levels. Heating will be sourced from waste heat generated by the River Thames, London Underground and sewers. This project is one of our biggest and most ambitious undertakings in clean heat for buildings — and has now reached a major milestone with the appointment of Hemiko and Vital Energi Utilities Limited joint venture to invest in and deliver the network.
