It’s a fact, you and your team members have to make your peace with. So as a team leader with deep knowledge of the risks as well as the magnitude of the situation, you will find that regardless of the efforts of your team still the heat is on. Hence as support to your well skilled team, you have to act as a shield against that heat not get to them and provide as much as you can of support to keep them motivated, if possible enjoying what they are facing and dealing with. go for workaround to restore connectivity, in parallel try to collect the reasons behind the outage and investigate deeply to create RSA and try to remediate all the causes of the disconnection. this whole process should be surrounded by acknowledgment of team efforts in all steps while effectively listening to all the team members' feedback all the time

Sharing knowledge is an extra step that requires an extra reason . The structure of the knowledge must be comprehensive and easily accessible . It must benefit the sharer later to return to the knowledge easily . The team must also be working on the same tasks for any knowledge sharing to be relevant .

First do a basic assessment and understand the severity of the issue. If it is P1 or P2 , then split the team into three sections. One is to communicate with internal and external parties, another for looking for help (such as vender communication, searching... etc) and the last one for actual troubleshooting. Do this split based on their skills. This will really expedite the final solution.

while no one likes to stand on the sidelines during outages, having someone dedicated to taking notes, shielding your engineers from ad-hoc status requests and other trivial matters (who has time to order food when troubleshooting?) has proven it's worth time & again. there is little joy in writing a post-mortem after a 20h shift, based on your cli history, in a way that non-geeks can understand. great when your staff is all onsite, even better when they're a distributed team.

It's helpful for your team to understand the impact on your customers. It's OK, and even good, for them to hear from the affected customers how much trouble the outage is causing them; this makes it real. And when the problem is fixed, they should then hear that as well. I remembering once hearing, from a major aircraft manufacturer, "Our business is making airplanes. Because of this network outage, we did not make any planes today!" We got the message, and felt better when it was fixed.

In situations like these, you can over-communicate. Provide at least 3 major updates to your users each day, that distill all the work that is going on in the background to restore services. Within the team, let information flow freely via private groups and chats. No update is unimportant. You cannot over-communicate.
