- The series started in 1946 and was from the beginning sponsored by the Verein "Freunde der Völkerkunde" and the Museum für Völkerkunde both located in Vienna; later it was sponsored solely by the Verein. It has been published by a number of entities: (1) Wilhelm Braumüller Universitäts Verlag; (2) the Verein itself; (3) Lit Verlag. It has gone through three main appearances, the lastet being with a white cover and the ARCHIV with a number as title followed by Archiv für Völkerkunde. The museum, the Verein (Society) and the publication have all changed recently their name. The Museum für Völkerkunde was renamed Weltmuseum Wien on April 1, 2013 and the Verein shortly thereafter. The last of this series is volume 59-60 published in 2009.The publication is now named Archiv Weltmuseum Wien. The numbering was continued and also the style of having ARCHIV and a number as the top heading. It should be noted that the first nineteen volumes had Roman numerals (I-XIX) followed by Indo-Arabic numerals (20-59/60). Reprints with special covers are also given here with the volume number followed by "Sonderdruck". (English, Unclassified)
