- Set in a universe where men can be wizards. In the country of Chardonia, woman are strictly chattel, valuable only to the degree that they have magic in their blood. All women are tested at 17, and the amount of magic determines their purchase price and the status of the son-in-law that they procure for their father. There is a class of people known as the Tarnished. These are men who failed to show any wizardly potential when they were tested in childhood, or women who have displeased the wizard to whom they belong. The Tarnished are bald, tattooed, and not permitted to reproduce. (English, Unclassified)
