3 novellas featuring the same hero and heroine, a bigfoot researcher and a lumberjack. Sounds awesome right? It doesn’t quite live up to the potential. It needed to be cracktastic but instead is just pretty good.

After loving her menage shifter books, I decided to give Noirs more “traditional” romance novels a try. And then I was blown away.

Alex, also known as the Scorpion, is tasked with quietly stealing Tessa away from a high-class Beverly Hills wedding and handing her over to his henchmen to hold hostage in the desert so that her accountant father doesn’t go to the Feds and rat on the Cartel. Except it’s Alex that ends up in the desert with Tessa, both of them trapped in the middle of nowhere with their growing desires.

Seriously, somewhere around the halfway mark, I almost stopped reading this book because there was no way it could work. Ok, sure, I can get on board with an overwhelming desire kind of thing, a heightened emotions in dangerous situations trope that bring two characters together. But the violence, the danger, the tension between Alex and Tessa was so fraught, I figured there was no way I was getting a happy ending. He’s a cartel killer! He kidnaps her! And then all this other shit happens that I can’t tell you about because spoilers. How could they possibly fall in love in a meaningful way?

But I kept going and Jesus, am I glad I did. Noir does an amazing job of showing how these two disparate characters belong together. How well they compliment each other, both in terms of personality and chemistry. And fucking A, the chemistry is off the charts. Noir is FILTHY. This is not a tame book, in any sense of the world. Alex is dominant and dirty, but Tessa meets him and even surpasses him. It’s well plotted, emotionally rich, and extremely sexy.

By the time we got to the happy ending, I felt like I had been on a rollercoaster.

My chubby fingers hit the Buy This Book button before my brain realized it wasn’t a Kindle Unlimited title. Then I couldn’t figure out how to return the book on my phone and was too lazy to open up my laptop. So I thought, what the hell? Imagine my delight when, on practically the first page, I realize these are BISEXUAL WEREBEAR MENAGE novellas! Ok, so none of the werebears were lumberjacks, but you can’t have everything.

The first story is the least interesting, to me, but that means very little. Each of these novellas was compelling, emotional, funny, and well plotted– even the ones I liked a little less than the others. Character development was as important to the story as the sexual chemistry. And while these are fated mate stories, there were times where I sincerely wondered if I would get an HEA. Amazing!… (more)

Just when I thought nothing could top the bears, the the wolves showed up! Wolves, the outcasts and ne’er-do-wells of the shifter world, immediately stole my heart. I do so love an underdog (no pun intended). If I thought the bears had it tough, Noir really put me through the wringer with the wolves. Reading each triad come together, overcome obstacles, give in to the steamy, overwhelming desire between them, was so enjoyable. Seriously, how does Noir make a love connection between three people seem so out of reach and yet totally compelling? I loved it.… (more)
