This was a very good book I enjoyed character development and the self discovery Riley had to accomplish to complete her mission

While I would love for this to be a positive book review I cannot say that it is.After reading The Immortals Series by Alyson Noel I thought that I would give this work of fiction a shot. I did try to read this book during the month of August when I tried to marathon the entire fantasy series. That never came to fruition as I ended up reading several other books during that month once I finally finished this book. At just under 400 pages I did not think that this would be a hard read.

One of the first things that bothered me were the characters. We meet our main character Daire Santos who is a horrible teenager. She is a 16-year-old who does not even really sound like a 16-year-old should sound. She is closed minded even after her mind starts to show her the things that she is meant to be seeing. She would rather immediately being to think that she is crazy than to think of the possibility that it might actually be real. That really bothered me, and it probably bothered me more than it should have. Another thing about our main character is she treats everyone including her mother like complete trash. If her mother had actually acted like a mother I am pretty sure the main character would not have done half the things she did.

We then meet our main character's grandmother, her paternal grandmother where the family magic comes from. The magic that this family believes in is not even something that I could really wrap my mind around. That was another thing that bothered me about this book since I was unable to really understand the world that was being created for me, the reader.Eventually her grandmother starts to become ill and that is finally when she decides that she needs to take what her grandmother is telling her seriously.

Another thing that bothered me was the love interest. It was extremely instantaneous and that was just to much. After all of the things I already did not like this just added to my dislike of the book. I love a good love interest or triangle as much as the next person but this was a bit much to me. I just could not take the fact she meets him and it was love. I am sorry but even in a story it just cannot be that instant. It does not feel believable.

All in all the writing style was similar to her Immortals Series. However, The Immortals Series was a better read. fated was not at all what I expected because the cover shows a girl who looks to be of Indian heritage not that of Hispanic heritage. I hope that this slight review of the book helps people decide if they would like to read this book or not. This is the second review that I have done of this book and I hope that this review is better than the first.

“Well, it's nice to have a dream. But it's even nicer when there's a remote possibility of it coming true.”

“Life is still life. It’s still tough, complicated, and more than a little messy, with lessons to be learned, mistakes to be made, triumphs and disappointments to be had, and not every day is meant to be a party.”

“That's what true love is. It cannot be broken, it cannot be chipped away, it's eternal, everlasting, and it can weather any storm.”
