  1. BREAKING NEWS, DragonBall Xenoverse 2 fans! An unverified but totally legitimate leak has surfaced showing off the new characters available to play!
  2. Now that the first anime episode of DragonBall Super has aired, I hearby open this official discussion thread. Here, we can talk about the anime, the manga, or any other related Super topics. With that said, if none of you have read the first manga chapter, then feel free to take a look here. Now then, for my thoughts on the first anime episode:
  3. Why yes, you did read the title correctly. Info from an article by Crunchyroll: Shueisha's Shōnen Jump Plus digital manga magazine began publishing a brand new DragonBall spin off manga entitled "Dragon Ball Gaiden: Tensei-shitara Yamcha Datta Ken" (or in English: "Dragon Ball Side Story: The Case of Being Reincarnated as Yamcha"). Also important: this manga is illustrated by fan artist DragonGarowLee, famous in the DragonBall community for his unofficial DragonBall x One Punch Man crossover stories, including a work where he pit Saitama against Vegeta. The manga centers around a perverted high school student from the real world who suddenly finds himself reincarnated in the body of Yamcha from the DragonBall series. Being a fan of DragonBall and aware of Yamcha's role in the series as "Ultimate Chewtoy For Life", he uses his knowledge of future events to his advantage and sets out on a quest to make himself, as Yamcha, the strongest character possible. You can read the first chapter here, but of course, it is in entirely in Japanese with no apparent signs of a fan translation or an English release as of this time. But even without words, it's pretty easy to figure out what's going on. Quick note before I go on: I made a thread a while back about Shuiesha opening a new DragonBall department, and I suspect this new project may be connected to that, but I can't confirm otherwise. Also, if you don't follow DragonBall Super, the recent episode was heavily Yamcha centered as it was a comedy filler about baseball, so that might have something to do with it too. Anyways, the manga: This is, by far, the most entertaining and hilariously awesome idea I've seen since... well, the DragonBall Super baseball episode. Yamcha has become such a joke character (and I mean that in the nicest of ways) that even Japan recognizes how much comedy material they can crank out of him with things such as the "Saibaiman Pose" becoming a trademark merch seller as well as the aforementioned DBS episode. And quite frankly: it works. Very well. If you're a fan of Yamcha (if that's even possible... I kid, I kid), I highly recommend you check this out. It's a bit of a stretch in terms of actual storytelling, but it's also obviously a tongue-in-cheek take on the character and his progression through the original storyline, so I think it's worth a few laughs just based on the premise alone. Also, I'm totally behind the idea of more fan artists being called on by Shuiesha to do official DragonBall work ala Toyotaro and the DragonBall Super manga and everything else he's done. UPDATE: According to this tweet from @Herms98 (aka Herms from Kanzenshuu), DragonGarowLee himself has stated that this manga will last 3 chapters.
  4. || SYNOPSIS || A world of martial arts, a world of pirates, and a world of shinobi. Based on those descriptions alone, one would automatically think that these worlds were far from ordinary. And you would be right. The lives of Son Goku, Monkey D. Luffy, and Naruto Uzumaki are full of action, adventure, legends, wars, comedy, tragedy, and romance (and not the kissy-kissy type). As they constantly push theirselves to the absolute limit while battling humans, beasts, mortals, and gods alike, it would take an entire saga (or sagas) just to detail the many feats and events that these three titans have to their respective names. But, even with all that, something has happened that goes beyond that level of understanding… an incident where those same titans, accompanied by their friends, found themselves on a strange, new world. A new world entirely populated and controlled by the most dastardly enemies and obstacles that they have encountered in the past, all looking to settle their scores and take them all out. In a time like this, there’s only one thing our heroes can do: stick together, survive the odds, and kick all sorts of ass. || RULES / GUIDELINES || This RP works with a set roster of characters. You may pick at least two characters to play as, but no more. For availability: first come, first serve. Feel free to join even if you’re not familiar with any one or more of the three series. I’m open to anyone as long as they want to have fun. Explicit content allowed in posts include: minor swearing, minor explicit references to sex, and minimal description of blood and violence are allowed. Please do not be more explicit than this. I’m balancing everyone’s battle power (mostly DragonBall) so that no one main character, regardless of series, is massively stronger than the other. Anybody caught overstepping this rule will be considered “god-modding” and get kicked from the RP. I’ll go further into detail later. Post as often as possible. There are a lot of characters that are constantly doing things so I need as much participation as possible. Personal emergencies or busy-ness is understandable, but at the very least, do your best to work around it if possible. All other miscellaneous KH13 roleplaying rules apply. || PLAYABLE ROSTER || If you'd like more information, feel free to ask and also take a look at this RP's interest check.
  5. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 has finally been announced ladies and gentlemen! You can find the announcement trailer here;
  6. From the desk of the elitist snobs news hounds at Anime News Network, Japanese publisher Shuiesha (known best for publishing in magazines like Weekly Shonen Jump and V-Jump) has announced that they have set up a brand new department called the "DragonBall Room" which is full dedicated to brainstorming new ideas for DragonBall content and future releases. This is a very big statement to make for the DragonBall franchise because in terms of the DragonBall content we have right now, there's actually not really a whole lot to sort through. There's DragonBall Super the anime, as well as its promotional manga tie-in, the gag manga DragonBall SD in Saikyo Jump, the re-released "Digest Edition" of the original DragonBall manga, and even counting releases going on in America like the 3-in-1 and Full Color Editions of the original manga, it's still pretty slim pickings. To hear that even more DragonBall is being worked on as speaks volumes for the future of the franchise because following how DragonBall Super has been playing out and given how a lot of other media franchises work these days, some portions of the fanbase are pondering how much more content can be expanded upon in the DragonBall universe. DBS has opened up new avenues and presented even more possibilities for expansion than ever before. Not only that, but there is also still room for expansion of ideas embedded in the franchise as a whole, such as the original manga or anime properties. Drawing a comparison to another franchise, DragonBall is very much like how the Star Wars franchise currently is under the Disney banner in that it has created a new EU and has multitudes of different areas to explore and expand upon with characters, stories, and lore. Shuiesha could very much take a similar approach and have its new department start developing products that do just that except with DragonBall. Origins, unseen events, or just fun little side-stories are all viable for release. It doesn't have to be just manga either, as it could easily expand into anime, film, or even video games. Of course, this is all just speculation on my part until we see what this department's direction really will be when they actually start releasing official products. But we'll see.
  7. Yesterday was the 20th anniversary of DragonBall Z's first official airing on American television, and it couldn't be fitting enough that a video like this would pop up around the same time. Note -- For those looking at the thumbnail before deciding to watch the video: this is not a rant, this is not about bashing dubs, and this is not about bashing fans. The point is not to stir up arguments. In fact, it's quite the opposite. With that being said, enjoy.
  8. The official DragonBall video game Facebook page has posted a link to a website officially created by Bandai Namco. The front page has a countdown set to end tomorrow and teasing the possibility of a brand new DragonBall video game. The only hints we have been given as to what this game is going to be are the websites URL ("flythroughtime") and the various images that can viewed and interchanged on the front page. All of these images seem to come from various sources of official DragonBall promotional art, including posters for the DragonBall and DragonBall Z movies and art used for past DragonBall video games. Now, the greatest conclusion that most people are drawing to is obviously a potential sequel to DragonBall: Xenoverse. I mean, "flying through time"? The visuals of DragonBall properties past? The subtext is very easy to pick up on, as the original Xenoverse game fully revolved around the very history of DragonBall, and judging by the visuals, a sequel would expand on that idea greatly. Still, I have my personal doubts. Seeing the visuals and looking at art from games like Burst Limit, the Budokai series, and even Attack Of The Saiyans make me think that something else entirely might be in store. But, what do you think it is?
  9. == Age 700, TokiToki City = A bright light descended from the sky and touched down on the ground. From the light, three beings emerged: a trio of young Saiyan warriors from a distant future, though not as distant as the one they were in now. The three were in awe and in confusion at what they saw: a wondrously structured city made up of green plains, white buildings, technologically advanced hubs and transporters, and all painted with a sleek color of mysticism. Caba / Zikuni "W-wow... where are we?" one of the Saiyans named Caba asked. "The better questions are how and why. We literally just got poofed out of nowhere in the middle of our training session!" said the female Saiyan, Zikuni.

  11. Tatsu / Aize / Trunks -- Age 850: Toki Toki City -- A bright flash of light filled the area in front of the central plaza with a group of warriors, of all shapes, sizes, and races. One of them: a Namekian, well built and tall enough to tower over everybody else in the group looked around with tight, serious eyes, while another one, a small, blue and green member of the race that Frieza belonged to, observed casually the area to which he and the others now found themselves. It was a futuristic like city, built with gray and purple metal walls and floors, a patches of green grass surrounding the edges of some entrances and walkways, and behind them, a small river running under a few bridges, and a nearby pedestal on the other side, carrying seven orange orbs with stars on them. But most notably: above the group was a giant green dragon, floating high in the air with a mystical aura. "Farewell!" he cried to the others, suddenly dispersing from the air as seven orbs lifted up from the pedestal and spread throughout the air. Not a moment later did a man in a green and brown coat and carrying a sword on his back come walking towards everybody, a small smile on his face. "You're all surprised, I'm sure. Don't worry, I'll explain everything to you.... my name is Trunks," he said. "Trunks, huh? You don't seem like much... I'm Tatsu, by the way," the Namekian said. "Hmm... my name is Aize," the member of Frieza's race said after.
  12. A new trailer for the upcoming DragonBall anime has been released. Various new scenes are shown, including that of the two new characters added to Super: Shanpa, the obese Beerus-looking creature and what can be assumed is his attendant who resembles a female Whis. Again, no new information has revealed who these characters are or what their role in Super is sans interacting with Beerus and Whis.
  13. More DragonBall Super news, in the form of a new website launching for the series: http://www.toei-anim.co.jp/tv/dragon_s/ The visuals/character designs imply that the anime will start sometime after Battle of Gods and before Resurrection 'F'. Seeing events that transpire between BoG/'F' would be a logical start for the anime, and DragonBall is already known for moving around in the time, whether it be 8 months or 7 years. lol The website also hosts a brand new promotional image for the anime, shown here: As you can see, other than the characters we know and love, there are two new characters positioned by Beerus and Whis. One of them appears to be a fatter version of Beerus while the other is a female version of Whis. No information is given about these characters other than the visuals. Fans speculate that this a new God of Destruction/Attendant, and others think they may be relatives of the same race as Beerus and Whis. Again, there is no information other than the visuals, so speculation is all that is apparent for these two characters.
  14. The upcoming DragonBall anime series "DragonBall Super" has been given a small teaser trailer. The most we can gather from this short video are the animation quality (which is similar to new age stuff we've seen in Battle of Gods and Resurrection 'F') and the appearance of several characters (Goku, Gohan, Goten, Videl, Hercule, Vegeta, Trunks, Piccolo, Mr. Buu, Beerus, Whis, etc). There might not be much to go off of but I can assure you the excitement is only increasing.
  15. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2015-06-04/dragon-ball-manga-editor-series-should-have-ended-after-frieza/.88918 Kazuhiko Torishima, former editor for Akira Toriyama from his years doing Dr. Slump up the end of the first half of DragonBall, as well as a CEO at Shuiesha, was interviewed by comedian Kendo Kobayashi and, of course, the man asked Torishima about the current state of the DragonBall series. This included not only his confirmation that the series should have ended after the Namek/Frieza Arc, but he also cheekly says, "If you're fighting opponents like old farts (Dr. Gero) and ladies (Android 18), then it's best to call it a day." (This quote was somewhat mishandled in the interview, so I found a better translation.) Weeeell, whoop-de-freaking-doooo... it's time to play everybody's favorite game: "Let's Debate When DragonBall Should Have Ended Even Though It's Super Freaking Redundant At This Point Due To How Long The Series Has Lasted And People Should Clam Up Already Because Their Opinons Mean Jackshit"... ugh... To be fair, I'm not angry with Mr. Torishima when I make that statement. He's wasn't even malicious about the subject, he's just speaking from hindsight. I'm angry with the fanbase, because they are the ones who constantly play that game to death since, I don't know, the anime ended, and now anybody who brings up this topic just makes me want to groan. Still, f*ck Torishima for talking shit about my waifu.... okay, not really. lol But let's get back on track: I know what all of you people are going to say, especially those who actually are fans of DragonBall. You're gonna post all your opinions, saying that DB should have ended at Frieza, or Cell, , or even King Piccolo or after the Dragon Balls used for the first time, and you're also going to state your reasons why you think so, and why this arc was crap or why this other arc was crap and why this villain sucked or why this other villain sucked, and yadda yadda yadda. I'm not opposed to anybody having a opinion, but for Kami's sake, DragonBall has been a thing for more than two decades now. We just got done with the first two DragonBall anime films in years, films that actually continue the story, and there's a confirmation that a new anime series is going to premiere in a mere month. Arguing about whether or not DragonBall should have ended earlier at this point is redundant. It's one of the biggest hot-button topics in the fanbase, something that still breeds arguments, unnecessary bile, and general mockery of the series as well, even though the relevancy of its opposition towards the series has literally outgrown them. Mr. Torshima thinks fighting old guys and women is when you should call it a day. I laugh at this statement. Not only because it makes him seem kind of sexist (I mean, it kinda does after all), but also because he thinks that the Androids were apparently the reaching point in DragonBall. Yeah, sure. And yet he didn't have a problem with the big, green slug man that touted himself as a demon and literally birthed his minons from eggs... also reinforced by the fact that the slug man's design was based on him... See, this is why you got replaced, Mr. Torishima. You're no fun. Now, I could go on about my own feelings about DragonBall ending at Frieza, because a) Frieza is my favorite villain/arc and b) I do believe in some circles that it would also be a fitting ending, but thats the thing: "Some circles". As in, it can fit in some ways. Because if it literally ended after Frieza, and in the same way the Frieza Arc ended originally mind you, then holy crap would it be disappointing. Goku's resolution with his Saiyan heritage and Frieza is one thing, and it also showcased Piccolo very well, but Gohan would still be given a shaft in characterization for never reaching his full potential (which was the original point of making the second half in the first place), the human characters would go off on a really bad note considering they all died and never got a chance to redeem themselves sans Krillin, and most of Vegeta's characterization goes to waste. Plus, really, everything seems like a waste when you think about it. The Saiyan & Namek Arcs introduced us to both the concepts of the afterlife and space travel. And after only laying down certain foundations for both those concepts, to just only scratch the surface of what is possible with them and then just say "sayonara" to the entire series just feels like stillborn creativity, and its minuscule to the amount of lore we would receive later on. And I don't want to live in a world where my waifu, Future Trunks, and Lord Beerus don't exist... I'd rather visit the world where GT was never made. Or better yet, The Movie That Shall Not Be Named. So yeah, despite my rambling, all of you are going to tell me what you think anyways, so feel free. Just remember: two decades and still trucking. Alright? Alright.
  16. Synopsis: Age 788. Trunks, the son of Bulma and Vegeta, defeated the Androids created by Dr. Gero and restored peace to his world in the “Alternate Timeline”.
