Fall into the magical world of Wonderland by following in the footsteps of Alice, however this world seems to be caked in a layer of chaos from the girl’s adventures. Left and right, the residents of Wonderland require a powerwasher’s help to clean up the mess she left behind from the cake splattered all over the White Rabbit’s hollow to the grand table of the Mad Hatter’s and Dormouse’s Unbirthday Tea Party. PowerWash Simulator’s Alice’s Adventures DLC pack is very similar to its previous DLCs, unlocking with it new skin cosmetics for the powerwasher’s uniform and tools. With it, there are five new exclusive maps: Wonderland’s Entrance Hall, White Rabbit’s House, Caterpillar’s Mushroom, Mad Tea Party, and the Queen of Hearts’ Court. Alice’s Adventures remains the same price as the other DLCs at $7.99 and is available on PC through Steam with console availability through Xbox One & Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4/5. As this review will reveal, the Alice’s Adventures DLC is very much worth the price.

Story – Very Sweet and Deceptively Simple

PowerWash isn’t known for spinning plot-heavy narratives in their games, but there is a storyline for the powerwash’s presence being required in Wonderland. Brought in after Alice has visited each place, ensuing similar chaos’ written in the original literature, it’s up to the powerwasher to clean up the messes she left behind. Along the way, we get messages from key characters in Wonderland such as the Mad Hatter as we clean up his table, a minor existential conversation with the Caterpillar, and much more behind the scenes as you clean up from place to place.

The premise is very simple as for the reason why you are present, the writing is coherent and follows many dialogue conversations seen in the novel. The Alice’s Adventures DLC is a treat to any who has read or has a love for the original work of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carrol. For many of the references made in the game, the DLC is heavily inspired by the novel written back in 1865 rather than the Disney and Tim Burton versions that came out later in their respective years.

Gameplay – A Large Surprise Wrapped in a Tiny Bottle

As mentioned prior, Alice’s Adventures PowerWash DLC comes with five new maps to complete. This makes it one of the best DLCs to have come out for PowerWash since the SpongeBob SquarePants collaboration because it is the first to include entire maps for the player to explore. From the first map to the last, the player is virtually transported into Wonderland, dropped down a long colorful tunnel into the first corridor that Alice walks to begin her adventures. Each map is incredibly detailed with Easter eggs from the story, tea sets along the wall of the hallway, Mad Hatter’s cards and dice littered on the Tea Party table, and everywhere you go, before you start cleaning are the tell-tale marks of Alice’s presence being there before you. While she may have been following after the paw prints of the little White Rabbit, we as the powerwasher are following after her hand and shoe prints littering the world of Wonderland whether they are covered in jam, cake, or mud.

PowerWash Simulator doesn’t just encapsulate the world of Wonderland in their new Alice’s Adventures DLC, but they celebrate the original work by bringing it to life in a variety of prismatic and nonsensical colors and decorations. Each map is aesthetically pleasing to unveil through the efforts of your cleaning, and there is never a dull moment even when you may be spending an hour cleaning off the table surface or the gunk off the walls. The task isn’t very difficult, just tedious, and as a player who will often turn on a podcast or a YouTube video, mindlessly cleaning in PowerWash Simulator is the best kind of downtime I could personally ask for.

As someone who has a soft spot for classic novels and cleaning simulators, Alice’s Adventures was a pleasant surprise since I initially thought the DLC would be more Disney-centric. However, upon immediately dropping into the main foyer, uncovering the walls revealed much to my surprise that the game was taking on more of a classic spin on Lewis Carrol’s original work. This created a more fun experience as PowerWash’s new DLC portrayed the world of Wonderland in a wide array of prismatic colors that were as nonsensical as they were beautiful. Each map was vibrant and full of a deep love for Alice’s Adventures due to the attention to detail and creative decisions in executing many of the designs.

Audio/Graphics –  Washing Away Worries in a Sea of Tears

PowerWash Simulator may not be known for orchestral or thematic music, but in each map in Alice’s Adventures, the game does utilize a combination of ambiance sounds. As a relaxing cleaning simulator, music isn’t a focus, but on some of the maps such as Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, the devs did pay enough attention to add different sounds when the player is stepping on different items. In Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, there is a combination of tea cups and plates from a set as well as leftover pastries. Depending on what the player is stepping on, the sounds will change from a player walking on porcelain versus a normal crumbly surface. So the game devs do pay attention to the environment which is a nice touch, but I usually don’t play cleaning simulators for their music soundtrack.

The main source of sound in the game is going to be the water pressure coming from the powerwasher, which can be quite soothing for most people. Utilizing the science of pink or gray noise, PowerWash Simulator’s consistent water pressure changing depending on the surface and tool used can be a nice background noise for most players. Although it never tends to be my favorite type of noise, I can still enjoy PowerWash Simulator purely for the cleaning simulation portion rather than taking advantage of the enjoyable background noise.

One of the highlights of PowerWash’s Alice’s Adventures DLCs is the level of detail that comes with the maps. There are multiple items connected to the hallways of the front foyer when entering Wonderland, inside the White Rabbit’s Hollow, tree branches are crawling all over the walls several clocks hang just behind an armchair, and multiple accessories from the Mad Hatter are left behind on the Tea Party table. No space is left bare or boring within these maps, in every corner, there is something new to discover or a mini homage to the Lewis Carrol novel or his character.

Cleaning the maps themselves was not difficult and would probably go much faster if players were to use more powerful tools such as the triple nozzle or different arrays of soaps, but I personally go through the maps slowly as part of decompression. They were all incredibly fun to complete and easy, I wasn’t struggling to find certain debris or dirt left over in a clean area, and there were no notable bugs that I’ve come across in regards to the scaffolding like before in the Warhammer DLC.

PowerWash Simulator’s Alice’s Adventures DLC was purchased and reviewed on PC from the Steam Store.

Summary
If you like PowerWash Simulator, you’re going to love this DLC and if you love Alice in Wonderland, you’re going to love this DLC.
