GameSir F8 Pro Snowgon Review: Cool Way To Cool Your Phone

F8 Snowgon Pro is pure and simple, a smartphone attachment that is designed to cool your phone, while also providing you with a grip similar to a standard gaming controller. The cooling module is comprised of several components that help make the cooling system here a bit more serious. The point of contact with the smartphone is this superconducting silicone pad underneath which lies the metal cold plate and underneath that, you have the semiconductor refrigeration chip. Of course, there’s the in-your-face 7-blade fan that also helps disperse heat generated by the phone.

Snowgon’s mechanism supports phones from 125-173mm in length. The grip is overall very well designed, feeling natural to hold with just enough space on the back so your fingers don’t overlap with the fan. It’s much more comfortable than simply holding your smartphone, enabling much longer play sessions. On a bit disappointing note, Snowgon doesn’t have a power supply of its own and it needs to be plugged into an external power source in order to work.  Its hollow grips, at least, allow you to charge your phone while using it but such a setup creates a bit of a cable mess for something that’s supposed to be clutter-free and portable. 

That aside, Snowgon is really great at cooling your phone. As soon as it’s turned on, the cooling pad gets insanely cold and the chill remains consistent throughout your time playing. The fan even has some fairly bright RGB that makes the back of Snowgon a bit more eye-catching. The fan or the RGB, unfortunately, can’t be controlled so no luck on the fans of the less shiny, minimal aesthetic. What is great about the fan is that it’s fairly quiet and while it does make the controller vibrate a bit – it’s never to the point of being distracting to use. It also has this little metal piece that can extend, turning Snowgon into a convenient mobile stand.

Snowgon also has a couple of accessories to make it more viable as a controller. These are the detachable joystick that simply snaps to the left side of the grip as well as the F2 Firesticks and the F5 Falcon Mini. All of them have their own uses but also suffer from limitations that ultimately make them not very useful, especially in games that require precision.
