Epomaker RT100 Keyboard Review: Keys to the Retroverse

While the Epomaker RT100 isn't the first keyboard to marry retro aesthetics with modern tech, it's undoubtedly among the finest, striking the perfect balance between the charm of yesteryear and the innovation of today.

Epomaker RT100 is a full keyboard in the 1800 layout which makes it relatively compact and only about one to two centimeters wider than most TKL keyboards. Besides the unique layout, it’s just the sheer retro aesthetics and the colorway that makes this keyboard as beautiful as it is. The colors on any variant are rich and vibrant, and the relatively large font on the keycaps adds a lot of personality to the keyboard beyond its retro aesthetics.

As for the rest of the keyboard, the RT100 is entirely constructed from plastic, but I can confidently say that it feels quite robust and sturdy. It has a substantial overall weight, and there’s absolutely no key rattle or flex on the chassis.  All of these factors contribute to the RT100 giving the impression of great build quality. All of that and the padding inside the keyboard makes for a keyboard with a unique typing experience and a surprising sound profile. No matter the switch of your choice, the keyboard is exceptionally quiet, to the extent that transitioning from a louder keyboard may even feel a bit strange.

The keyboard has toggles to control the connection modes and also a media control knob. Uniquely, it also comes with a little retro display add-on that brings even more charm and funcionality to the keyboard. It can show information like connection modes, battery status, time and day, local temperature, and even CPU usage while being customizable with images and GIF’s through the Epomaker software.

The keyboard can connect to devices wired or wireless with the 2.4 GHz dongle or Bluetooth. The wireless performance is absolutely great, and it’s supported by a robust 5000mAh battery. It can comfortably give you around 3-5 days of usage with the RGB and the mini display while powering on for literal weeks should you decide to turn off the pretty lights. Of course, there’s a lot more to the RT100 so be sure to check out our full video review for more details on the design, performance and much more.
