Creative Assembly recently announced the new DLC for Total War: Warhammer 3, Shadows of Change, which will release on August 31. The new DLC will introduce 3 new Legendary Lords as well as a new Legendary Hero for Tzeentch, the Blue Scribes. Moreover, there will be a major Patch that releases at the same time as Shadows of Change, making August 31 an important date for the game.
This article will highlight the new Legendary Lords and Hero, including their unique gameplay mechanics, new units, and abilities. Total War: Warhammer 3 is available on Steam for $54.99, while the Shadows of Change DLC is available on Steam for $24.99.
New Legendary Lords Overview
The main stars of Warhammer 3’s Shadows of Change DLC are the new Legendary Lords and their unique mechanics. The game will see three new significant characters: The Jade Dragon Yuan Bo for Grand Cathay, Mother Ostankya for Kislev, and The Changeling for Tzeentch.
The Jade Dragon, Yuan Bo
The Jade Dragon, Yuan Bo, leads the Court of Celestial Sorcerers. While the Jade Dragon seems like the highest bureaucrat, he is a talented spymaster at heart, and the Jade Dragon runs the city of Wei-jin and, by extension, is an administrator for the Cathay empire. Liked by all, the good of Grand Cathay is in capable hands.
Yuan Bo brings at least two new mechanics to his faction, where he can rule Grand Cathay Empire using his enormous influence across the empire. The Jade Dragon can enact grand diplomatic moves such as overt and covert policies across settlements, armies, and even characters to best suit the Grand Cathay Empire.
Moreover, Yuan Bo can empower the Jade Compass by traveling to critical locations across the empire and constructing defensive relays before the Lizardmen incursions can ever harm Grand Cathay.
Mother Ostankya
Meanwhile, the Kislev faction will also receive one new Legendary Lord, Mother Ostankya, through Shadows of Change Warhammer 3 DLC. Mother Ostankya is a guardian, faithful to the land, holding anyone who seeks to harm it accountable, she draws her power from the very woods, fens and oblasts that she protects.
Like Yuan Bo, Mother Ostankya also brings a new gameplay mechanic for her faction, The Witch’s Hut, and when paired with the new rare resource, Spirit Essence, you can take advantage of ingredients gathered during your playthrough to create potent Incantations and utilize Hexes to vastly change the course of your entire campaign.
The Changeling + The Blue Scribes
Lastly, The Changeling arrives as the Changer of Ways’ latest Daemon of Tzeentch. As a lover of conflict, confusion, and discordance, the Changeling uses warfare as a distraction, for those consumed with violence are easily deceived. And when the realization finally dawns, it will almost certainly be too late.
Just like the other two new Legendary Lords, The Changeling delivers new cunning gameplay mechanics into the Warhammer world. He sees the entire world as Theaters; playgrounds where he can enact Schemes on other factions’ settlements for his own advantage, bringing them down while nurturing new tricksy cultists. The Changeling’s main campaign objective is to enact the Ultimate Scheme, the apex of his Schemes.
Moreover, The Changeling can adopt the form of any lord he faces, making his battle efficiency grow stronger as his enemy tries to do the same. When not fighting directly, he lingers in the shadows, stalking his prey, and waiting for the optimal time to strike.
And lastly, Tzeentch will also receive a new Legendary Hero, the Blue Scribes. As a wacky caster, this Legendary Hero grows in power as spells are cast around them thanks to their Spell Syphon passive. Meanwhile, their innate ability Scrolls of Sorcery grants a random spell selection at the start of the battle.
Shadows of Change will go live in Total War: Warhammer 3 on August 31, alongside Patch 4.0 which will bring many changes to the game, however, there is still no further information about the update’s full contents as of writing this article.
