System Shock Remake Receives Final Demo and Will Land This Summer

The System Shock remake has been a tumultuous journey for Nightdive Studios. When its Kickstarter began in 2016, the team predicted that it would finish in one and a half years. Instead, it ended up on hiatus in 2018 as the game “moved from a Remaster to a completely new game.” Now, Nightdive announced that it would release the 1994 sci-fi shooter remake in late Summer 2021. You can preorder the game on Steam, GOG, and Epic Games Store. Preordering also provides the upcoming System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition for free.

On top of a release window, System Shock received its final demo. Among the newest additions include a dismemberment system, more detailed environments, updated voice acting, and access to cyberspace. There’s even a dynamically changing music system that swaps between sections of tracks – rather than looping them.

In an interview with PC Gamer, Nightdive CEO Stephen Kick said that the demo presents a “feature-complete version of the game” – giving players exactly what to expect in the full release. With over $1.35 million raised on Kickstarter, fans of the original will be pleased to see the remake so close to completion.
