This System Shock reboot is based on the 1994 original version that was made by Looking Glass Studios. The original game was a cyberpunk first-person shooter that was an alternative to Doom and had an emphasis of being a sophisticated game.

Nightdive Studios, developer of the modern version, has completely made the game both familiar and refreshing for the old time fans.

Nightdive Studios is also known for creating remastered ports of beloved classic games. They have remastered other first-person shooters like Turok and Rise of the Triad.  The developer just recently released Quake II Remaster. They are also in development of an enhanced version of System Shock II, and had already done an enhanced version for the original 1994 title.

System Shock has spawned only two games in its series. The sequel was released in August 11, 1999. Both of these titles were PC exclusives and never had any console ports throughout its prime years.
