Gaming titan Square Enix is announcing Final Fantasy XVI’s second paid DLC, The Rising Tide. In a new press release, the gaming giant says that The Rising Tide will be available for the PS5 on April 18th and will unlock new storylines, battles, items, and side quests as well as raise the level cap.
The plot of the DLC revolves around Clive, the main protagonist of the game, receiving an unmarked letter compelling him to travel to Mysidia and rescue the Dominant of Leviathan the Lost. The Rising Tide is set to be “the final DLC chapter” of Final Fantasy XVI, according to Square Enix, and will wrap up the tale.
An unmarked letter arrives at the hideaway containing a request most curious: the Dominant of Leviathan, long lost Eikon of Water, is in need of rescue.

The Rising Tide will also feature special purchase bonuses, such as a revamped version of Curtana, the sword wielded by the Warrior of Light in Final Fantasy XIV and two new background tracks for Clive’s hideout.
Furthermore, Square Enix is also announcing an update for Final Fantasy XVI (Version 1.30) that will go live the same day The Rising Tide is set to launch. Here are the changes, according to Square Enix:
This update will add quality of life improvements for the game, including:
- Return to a quest giver immediately with the new ‘Quick Complete’ function
- Icon updates for important character quests
- A new Skill Set feature which allows players to save up to 5 unique Feat and Ability sets
- Abilities and Accessories adjusted for easier use
- New ‘Custom’ controller type allows for freely customizable button layouts
- Tone correction, screen effects, and more added to Photo Mode
- Numerous new orchestrion rolls added
The first Final Fantasy XVI paid DLC, Echoes of The Fallen, came out on December 23rd, 2023. Final Fantasy XVI released on June 22, 2023 to much acclaim and sold 3 million copies a week after its launch.
