Sons of the Forest Hotkeys Added in Recent Update

Sons of the Forest developers Endnight Games added hotkeys and several other quality of life features to the game in its most recent update. The update, Hotfix 2, was announced on the Steam Community Hub earlier today and was met with plenty of gratitude from players.

Sons of the Forest Hotkeys Added in Recent UpdateLess than a week has passed since the early access release of Sons of the Forest, but Endnight Games has already released two hotfixes to address various issues in the game. The second of these hotfixes most notably adds the ability for players to assign hotkeys to items in their inventory. As the absence of this function was one of the most common complaints made by gamers since the release, it is good to hear the developers addressed this. While players did have the ability to lift up their bag and grab an item with the Grab bag feature before, it wasn’t nearly as convenient as a good old-fashioned hotkey. Nobody has time to dig through their backpack in the middle of a fight to the death against a tribe of mutant cannibals.

The hotkey feature is very straightforward. To assign an item to a hotkey, simply hover the cursor over the desired item and press one of the numerical keys from 0-9. You can now skip opening your pack and switch between weapons and items simply by pressing the hotkey.

The update also includes some added hints, an improved cutscene skip prompt, and more functionality for the ‘Back’ button. Here are the full details of the announcement:

  • Added hotkey system for keyboard/mouse. Assign hotkeys in inventory by pressing numerical keys 0 through 9 on hovered items in inventory
  • Added hint for hotkeys to loading screen
  • Improved cutscene skip prompt; will now appear briefly at start or show when common skip keys are pressed (esc, space, etc)
  • Added heavy attack tutorial to loading hints
  • ‘Back’ (default Esc) will close Tutorial book, Construction book and Grab bag interactions
