Following the official release date announcement at Gamescom Opening Night Live last month, Marvel Rivals has unveiled the next hero that will join the roster once the upcoming Marvel hero shooter launches in early December, while also teasing another one, in a brand new trailer. The hero in question is, of course, Psylocke, one of the more well-known members of the X-Men.
Psylocke is a mutant with a complicated past and she joins Marvel Rivals as a new Duelist, the DPS class for the Marvel Hero Shooter. Like much of the cast, Psylocke’s kit can be easily likened to characters from other prominent hero shooters. With the ability to turn invisible at will and a quick forward sword dash, Psylocke appears to be a hybrid of two infamous Overwatch heroes, Sombra and Genji. Meanwhile, her Ultimate ability “combines her skills into one deadly attack as she rushes across the battlefield with her wings on display while cutting down all enemies in her path”.
The official Marvel Rivals website has also been updated with some additional information about this version of Psylocke, which is based on the Demon Days: X-Men version of the character by Peach Momoko.
“…our version of Psylocke, also known as Sai, is a wandering warrior in feudal Japan who has devoted herself to striking down ancient demons and monsters. Alongside her wolf companion, Logan, Psylocke won’t rest until all Yokai have fallen by her psychic blade.
Her story deepens as she is ripped from her reality by the Timestream Entanglement and put on display by the Collector. Alongside newfound allies, she escaped her cage and learned that other familiar warriors might still be out there. Her new quest is to gather those heroes, end this conflict, and return home.”
Ignite the Battle with Psylocke
In addition, Psylocke’s reveal trailer also had a little surprise at the end as a crescent-shaped silhouette appeared on the moon. This marks the second time that Moon Knight has been teased as an upcoming character, with the symbol of Khonshu appearing briefly during the end of the Captain America and Winter Soldier announcement trailer.
Psylocke will join the current roster of Marvel heroes and villains as the game’s twelfth Duelist when Marvel Rivals launches on December 6th.
