Pokémon Go Poliwag Community Day

This guide will outline the upcoming Poliwag Community Day and how Trainers can make the most of this event. The Community Day will happen on July 30th. There are Trainers who wished for a different Pokémon, but don't discount Poliwag. Its looking like this Community Day is about to give it a power boost.

Poliwag Community Day

The next community day for Pokémon Go has been announced. And this time the featured Pokémon is Poliwag. This community day takes place on July 30th from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. It’s been a while since a Pokémon with a divergent evolution has been featured. That means that for this community day, there are two different featured moves. Poliwag will also appear almost exclusively in the wild. The chance of encountering a shiny one will also drastically increase for all Trainers.

Featured Attacks

Evolving a Poliwhirl into Poliwrath will teach this Pokémon the fast move Counter. It has 8 base power in PVP and 12 base power in PVE. This move is very powerful on the many fighting types that have it. This should be a big upgrade for Poliwrath.

Evolving Poliwhirl with a Kings Rock into Politoed will teach this Pokémon the charge move Ice Beam. It has 90 base power both in PVP and PVE. This may be a useful coverage move for Politoed. But it seems likely to be less defining than Counter on Poliwrath.

Special Research

For $1.00 US Dollars or equivalent pricing in local currencies, Trainers will gain access to the Community Day exclusive quest. Like all of these Special Research Stories, Trainers will gain access to bonus rewards that will incentivize playing during the Community Day.

Don’t forget that Trainers can purchase the Poliwag Special Research for themselves as well as gift them to friends. Sharing is caring. Especially for Trainers who can afford to grant this ticket.

Event Bonuses

During Poliwag Community Day, the following bonuses will be active.

  • 1/4 Hatch Distance for eggs placed in an incubator during Poliwag Community Day. Trainers should have some extra incubators stockpiled to fully maximize this bonus.
  • 2x Candy for catching Pokémon. Trainers should be catching plenty of Poliwag during the event. This bonus only incentivizes that further.
  • 2x Chance for Trainers level 31 and up to obtain XL Candy from catching Pokémon. Trainers should realize at this point that it is in their interests to catch every Poliwag they see.
  • Lure Modules will last 3 Hours during the event. That’s long enough to last the entire Community Day. Make sure to use the standard lures. Using the others might cause Pokémon other than Poliwag to spawn. Don’t do that.
  • Incense will last 3 Hours during the event. That’s long enough to last the entire Community Day. Remember that this boost is for the Incense Item. Not the Daily Incense.
  • Taking snapshots during Poliwag Community Day has a chance to cause an additional Poliwag to spawn.
  • One additional Special Trade will be available during the Community Day. Make sure to complete those trades, but fear not, this bonus lasts the entire day.
  • All Trades will require 50% less Stardust. This bonus lasts the entire day.

Bonus Raids

Once Poliwag Community Day has ended, special 4 Star Raids with Poliwhirl will appear. By defeating these Raid Bosses, Trainers will cause Poliwag to spawn around the gym for 30 minutes. These Poliwag will have the same chance of appearing shiny as during the Community Day.

Keep in mind that Trainers must be physically present to battle in these Raids. Remote Raid Passes will not work.

Timed Research

Since evolving Poliwhirl into Politoed requires Kings Rock, which can at times be a rare item, there will be additional chances to earn them. During Poliwag Community Day, there will be time research available to all Trainers that will reward additional Kings Rocks. These objectives will tie in with the Community Day.

Field Research

As with all Community Days, there will be special field research available from spinning Pokestops during Poliwag Community Day. These Research tasks will involve catching Poliwag for rewards such as Kings Rocks, or additional Poliwag.

There are plenty of events going on during July and KeenGamer has guides to help Trainers get the most out of their Pokémon Go experiences. Have fun out there while catching.
