At the moment, summer slowly comes to an end as trainers prepare themselves for the Pokémon Go Fest 2023 this weekend. Another surprise that serves as the last proper event of this month is Noxious Swamp. Lasting from August 19 to August 22, Noxious Swamp wraps up August with an awe-strucking finale!
Unlike other events in Pokémon Go, this event brings some Fest-exclusive Pokémon globally from New York City. The types revealed consist of both Poison and Dragon types, so trainers should keep their eyes peeled for any unexpected enounters with these creatures. With that said, this article will recap a simple overview of the Noxious Swamp event.
Wild Encounters
Noxious Swamp’s featured Pokémon mainly consist of a mix of Poison and Dragon types. As per usual event Pokémon, these creatures have appeared more frequently in wild, giving trainers high chances of catching and evolving them.
In addition, for the first time, the Mock Kelp Pokémon Skrelp is getting its Shiny variant released globally. Like with other shinies, a shiny Skrelp is rather rare to find, so trainers can only obtain it if they’re lucky enough to find one. The following Pokémon and their shiny variants featured in the wild consist of:
- Zubat (Poison/Flying)
- Venonat (Bug/Poison)
- Tentacool (Water/Poison)
- Dratini (Dragon)
- Surskit (Bug/Water)
- Gulpin (Poison)
- Skorupi (Poison/Bug)
- Axew (Dragon)
- Skrelp (Poison/Water)
- Tyrunt (Rock/Dragon)
- Noibat (Flying/Dragon)
Normal Raid Battles
Pokémon Go’s Noxious Swamp also features a new set of Raid Battle Pokémon! The bosses there align with the Poison/Dragon aesthetic the event displays for trainers hooked onto the game. In fact, most of them can be found stationed in nearby gyms, so be prepared to fight them before the event ends. The following Raid bosses of the event consist of:
- Grimer (Poison): One-star Raid
- Alohan Grimer (Poison/Dark): One-star Raid
- Hisuian Qwilfish (Dark/Poison): One-star Raid
- Hisuian Sneasel (Fighting/Poison): One-star Raid
- Galarian Weezing (Fairy/Poison): Three-star Raid
- Druddigon (Dragon): Three-star Raid
- Turtinator (Fire/Dragon): Three-star Raid
Shadow Raid Battles
To add on, Shadow Raid Pokémon also show up presenting a toxic presence during the event. As most trainers know, Shadow Raid Battles are slightly more difficult than normal fights due to increased strength and powers of a Pokémon.
The Noxious Swamp Shadow bosses in Pokémon Go present a significant challenge to trainers who aren’t cautious. These dark opponents occasionally emerge within nearby gyms and include:
- Shadow Zubat (Poison/Flying): One-star Raid
- Shadow Houndour (Dark/Fire): One-star Raid
- Shadow Pidove (Normal/Flying): One-star Raid
- Shadow Nidoran♀ (Poison): Three-star Raid
- Shadow Onix (Rock/Ground): Three-star Raid
- Shadow Sneasel (Dark/Ice): Three-star Raid
Event Bonuses
During the Pokémon Go Noxious Swamp event, the following “Event Bonuses” consist of:
- 2x Candy for catching Pokémon. As more Dragon and Poison types emerge from the shadows, trainers will be able to collect a large amount for evolving.
- Team GO Rocket balloons will show up within a trainer’s location more often. This means more chances of collecting Shadow Pokémon as well as earning Stardust.
- When spinning a Gym Photo Disc, Trainers can earn one additional free Raid Pass per day. This helps with giving Trainers more chances to participate in ongoing Raid Battles!
Field + Timed Research Tasks
Lastly, Noxious Swamp has various Field Research tasks that grant rewards upon completion. Most of them give out the event’s featured Pokémon and other items as well. Most of them involve catching a certain Pokémon-type or battling the nefarious Team Rocket. The following rewards granted for completing a task consist of:
- Catch 3 Poison-type Pokémon: Grimer / Skrelp / Mareanie
- Catch 3 Dragon-type Pokémon: Dratini / Trapinch / Noibat
- Battle 2 Team GO Rocket Grunts: Potion (x5) / Super Potion (x3) / Revive (x2)
- Battle 3 Team GO Rocket Grunts: Mysterious Component (x2)
The Timed Research is free for trainers to complete, though doing so means focusing one’s attention on raids and encounters with Poison and Dragon types. Note that the Timed Research will expire on August 22 (8:00 PM local time), so complete it as soon as possible! The rewards provided consist of a catchable Janhmo-o and x50 Mega Energy for Salamence and Sceptile.
