A few announcements were made during the Behind The Sims livestream on January 31st, 2023. One of the biggest ones was the official reveal that a new life stage, Infants, will soon be descending on The Sims 4. They will arrive in the game on March 14th through a free base game update, similar to how toddlers were added in years ago in a free update.
Infants Update
Infants were originally teased in the previous Behind The Sims livestream in October 2022, in a clip of what appeared to be a baby crawling across the floor, something that currently isn’t possible in The Sims 4. It was thought that babies would be getting a major overhaul, no longer confined to a cradle with a few interactions. It now appears that Infants will be a brand-new life stage, set after babies and before aging up to toddlers. From the trailer that was broadcast, Infants are very much a crossover of babies and toddlers; old enough to leave their cradle and crawl around, but not quite as developed as toddlers, not yet able to learn to walk or talk. New objects such as a crib for Infants to sleep in was shown, as well as new clothing and unique interactions. Infants can also be created in Create-A-Sim; currently, the earliest creatable life stage are toddlers.
We can expect to learn more information about Infants as the update release date gets nearer.
Progress with Project Rene
Other announcements were made during the Behind The Sims livestream. There was an update for progress in Project Rene, aka the next generation of The Sims. A select few players were chosen to playtest parts of Project Rene, for the purposes of finding out what works, what doesn’t, and what needs improving. It was also confirmed of the plans to have Project Rene crossplayable on PC and mobile, and also single and multiplayer. The final and official version of Project Rene may be years away from now, but we can expect frequent updates on the game’s development.
New Content for The Sims Mobile and The Sims Freeplay
The Sims Mobile and The Sims Freeplay will also receive some updates, to coincide with the 23rd anniversary of The Sims. In The Sims Mobile, players can get a Disco Plumbob object. There will also be a treasure hunt with new items to unlock. The Sims Festival, a 60-day event, will also be returning, with new Korean-inspired architecture and fashion. Meanwhile, with The Sims Freeplay, the stereos will be getting new music as voted for by the community. Sims Springs will also be expanding with a new area added to the desert map, coming in April.
Finally, there was one last teaser to wrap up the livestream. This was for the next Expansion Pack for The Sims 4. Only a brief clip was shown, but it showed a family of Sims, the Michaelsons, calling at a door. The words “Meet the Family” were also displayed. This could be the name of the next EP or a hint of what’s to come. Some have speculated that this could be an Expansion Pack similar to The Sims 3 Generations, which had a big emphasis on family gameplay. As this was only a teaser, not much was revealed, but it will be on February 2nd, so it won’t be a long wait.
