New Honkai: Star Rail Trailer Reveals the Annihilation Gang, Penacony's Main Villains

Hoyoverse has just released both a new trailer and a new round of drip marketing for Honkai: Star Rail, giving Trailblazers a much better look at the Annihilation Gang, the main villains of the game’s next major area, Penacony.

In a new Myriad Celestia trailer (the series of trailers Hoyoverse uses to expand the lore and universe of Star Rail) called A Night of Everflame – Scene 33, we get to see all of the main members of the Annihilation Gang. Our first real mention of the Annihilation Gang was in Version 1.6’s Trailblaze Continuance and, despite that not showing not being as it first appeared, it did give us our first look at what kind of people the Annihilation Gang, and particularly their leader Duke Inferno, are like.

There are 5 main members of the Annihilation Gang that we see in both the trailer and the drip marketing. The first, and most important, is Duke Inferno himself, the leader of the Annihilation Gang’s Ever-Flame Mansion (voiced by Bob Johnson). With the flaming head of a ram, Duke Inferno is one of the most visually interesting and diverse characters in all of Star Rail, with a design unlike anyone else in the game. In the Myriad Celestia trailer, all members of the Annihilation Gang refer to him as Father.

The other members of the Gang include Akash “The Tuner” (Talon Warburton), a soft-spoken cello player with a myriad of scars on his arm, Dubra “The Scribe” (Kayli Mills), a strange little girl who seems to be a puppet for a larger scythe-wielding monster, Caterina “The Shacklebound” (Arianna Ratner), a fiery redhead covered in chains, and Constance “The Dahlia” (Jennifer Losi), a girl with a demon’s tail and Duke Inferno’s prized pupil.

As we mentioned, the Myriad Celestia trailer was also accompanied by a new round of drip marketing on Honkai: Star Rail’s social media. These new images give us a much better look at the five Annihilation Gang members in a very similar format to the Penacony character teaser we got at the beginning of version 1.6 In fact, the similarity of these images with one another raises questions about whether the Annihilation Gang will become playable characters in Honkai: Star Rail, as we already know that Sparkle and Black Swan (two characters featured in the previous round of drip marketing) will be playable.

However, the odds seem stacked against the Annihilation Gang in terms of being playable. Despite their beautiful designs, they seem to be the most antagonist force we’ve seen yet in the Star Rail, with their lore stating that they are fanatical devotees to Nanook, the Aeon of Destruction, and have killed many in their attempts to attract his gaze. While it isn’t unheard of that we get villainous main characters in a Hoyoverse game, Honkai: Star Rail does have a history of making impressive-looking villains and then killing them off instead of making them playable (ala Cocolia).
