After being blatantly teased over the last few months, Marvel Rivals has finally taken the plunge and officially unveiled Moon Knight as the next new playable character being added to the game. The announcement trailer was also accompanied by a new blog post which gave us some insight into Moon Knight’s lore and design process, as well as a new IGN First video showing off some raw Moon Knight gameplay.
Moon Knight is another new Duelist, the DPS class for Marvel Rivals, although he’s shaping up to be more of a ranged fighter rather than Bucky or Psylocke. Moon Knight’s Crescent Darts can ricochet between targets or the sacred ankhs he can summon, allowing him to quickly rack up damage on multiple targets from range. Outside of his combative abilities, Moon Knight also has access to a Widowmaker-esque grappling hook, one he can combo with his cloak to quickly manoeuvre and glide around the battlefield.
A new post on the official Marvel Rivals website revealed more information on this iteration of Moon Knight for Marvel Rivals. This new blog post also discussed the design process behind the Marvel Rivals’ version of Moon Knight, specifically in how they traded in his traditionally sleek and form-fitting attire for a more bulky and technological outfit to highlight his aggressive playlist.
“Mercenary Marc Spector was given a second chance at life when he became the avatar of the Egyptian moon god, Khonshu. As Moon Knight, he doles out righteous vengeance, locked in a never-ending battle with both the criminals on the streets and the voices in his head.
At Khonshu’s behest, Marc doles out righteous vengeance against those from across all timelines that challenge his master, putting him at odds with everyone from the mystic evils of Doctor Doom to the unknowable, alien darkness that threatens mortals and gods alike. In Marvel Rivals, Moon Knight wields these supernatural powers bestowed by Khonshu to vanquish his foes.”
“Leave them to Khonshu!”
The Moon Haunts You! New Hero Moon Knight
Moon Knight is the thirteenth Duelist to be confirmed for Marvel Rivals and the third new Duelist to be announced since the game’s Open Beta earlier this year, with the only non-Duelist to be confirmed in that same period was Captain America, a new Vanguard character. So far, Marvel Rivals is set to launch with thirteen Duelists, eight Vanguards, and six Strategists.
Moon Knight will join the rest of the playable roster when Marvel Rivals launches on December 6th 2024.
