Marvel Snap has just dropped its much awaited July 12 patch and it is time to go through everything that is new. This includes; buffs, nerfs, the new spotlight caches system, and more. Not only is this patch introducing the new ‘spotlight cache’ system, but it is full of gameplay tweaks and card adjustments that will definitely change how viable some cards are. This is an exciting day to be a Marvel Snap player, so let’s get right to it! If you want to know more details about a specific aspect of the update, you can read the full patch-notes.
In Case You Missed It: Jean Grey
The latest card to drop in Marvel Snap is Jean Grey. She is a 3-cost, 3-power card with the on-going effect: ‘Players must play their first card here each turn. (If possible)’. Right off the bat, the card seems as if it is apart of control. Indeed, that is generally the case but there are some nifty uses for her as well. For example, she would do greatly in Surfer decks due to her being a 3 cost. On top of that, playing her on turn 5 alongside a 2 cost drop seems like the best way to utilize this card. Not only are you controlling where they play on turn 6, you can combine that with Goose to really limit your opponent’s end-game.
All in all, the verdict for this card is still to be determined as there is a lot of testing needed before it finds its rightful place. So far, it’s found homes in control decks, Silver Surfer decks, and even Guardians decks. Players who do not want to spend 6000 tokens on acquiring the card can try and get her in spotlight caches that appear every 150 collection levels. More information regarding these caches below.
Spotlight Caches – Cards Galore
Spotlight caches have just dropped and they are a great way for series 3 incomplete players to acquire new cards. Every 150 collection levels, which is roughly 10 collector’s reserves, you get a spotlight cache. This cache has four things you can get out of it, each with a 25% drop rate. You have three chosen cards that are S4/S5 and a random S4/S5 card. If you already possess one of those chosen cards, you will instead be rewarded with a unique variant for that card.
This is what is in the spotlight caches at the moment: Jean Grey, Knull, and Living Tribunal. For the following week (7/18), the chosen cards will be: Echo (unreleased), Iron Lad, and Kang The Conqueror. In the week of 7/25, the cards will be: Legion (unreleased), High Evolutionary, and Darkhawk. Finally, on 8/1 the cards are set to be as follows: Mirage (unreleased), Thanos, and Master Mold. That being said, better horde your reserves and open them in the week of your choosing for the best chance at pulling the cards that you want.

Very great summary of news.

The addition of spotlight caches is so exciting, it makes series 4/5 cards so much more attainable! Jean Grey is also an interesting drop, and I appreciate that they’ve nerfed some of the cards in High Evo decks since he was too powerful. Overall, great article!
