As the December 6th release date for Marvel Rivals inches ever closer, more details about the game’s customisation and skins have started rolling out, beginning with some new details on two new premium skins for Venom. The news comes from an official announcement by Marvel Rivals Community Manager jjjamis on the game’s official Discord. According to the post on Discord, both of these skins will be available for Venom when the game officially launches.
The first of the new premium skins to be revealed for Venom was Anti-Venom, a strange off-shoot of the Venom symbiote which first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #569. The most popular mainstream appearance of Anti-Venom was in the 2011’s Spider-Man: Edge of Time where Anti-Venom played a prominent role as an antagonist to both Peter Parker and Miguel O’Hara. The Marvel Rivals version of the iconic Venom incarnation keeps the classic negative colour scheme while also making Venom’s eyes the same bright red as in their comic counterpart. Based on the lack of significant changes to Venom’s base design, though, the Anti-Venom skin will likely be an Epic Skin rather than a Legendary Skin.
Meanwhile, the second of Venom’s premium skins is Space Knight Venom which appears to be a lot more transformative than the Anti-Venom skin. Space Knight Venom is a relatively newer version of Venom from 2016 when Flash Thompson played host to the symbiote. Venom’s design in this outfit is much more technological- not unlike Thompson’s Agent Venom outfit – with the symbiote appearing more like armour: Venom is even sporting the large armour blade most associated with this version of the character. Whether or not this will change any of Venom’s animations is unclear but, if the Legendary Skins from the Beta are a hint, we can expect a special MVP animation for Space Knight Venom.
Like any hero shooter, cosmetic skins and outfits are a large selling point of Marvel Rivals, especially with such a large back catalogue to pull from and this isn’t the first time a special Venom has been teased. Previously, players could obtain a limited Rare Skin for Venom based on his cyan-tinted appearance from Marvel VS Capcom 2. Alongside this, several of the game’s Legendary Skins were based quite prominently on iconic outfits or designs from a wide array of Marvel comics, such as Spider-Punk or President Loki.
These new premium skins for Venom will arrive when Marvel Rivals releases on December 6th 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S.
