Two new characters were revealed for Marvel Rivals, the upcoming free-to-play Marvel Hero Shooter by NetEase, during the Marvel Rivals Special Presentation at Sandiego Comic Con. Alongside a bunch of new concept art and a new cinematic trailer which revealed the design for both versions of Doctor Doom and teased characters like Morbius, the Marvel Rivals Team also showed off two new Support and Tank Heroes who will be joining the playable roster very soon.
The first new character revealed was Jeff the Land Shark, a minor Marvel character who has captured hearts around the world thanks to his cute appearance and powerset. In Marvel Rivals, Jeff is a Strategist, the Support and healer archetype. According to Jeff’s official description, some of his abilities include Hide and Seek (which sounds like a Splatoon-esque dive for extra mobility), Healing Bubble, and, most interestingly, It’s Jeff!, which lets the cute shark-pup swallow enemies or allies alike and then spit them back at his enemies for additional damage.
The mighty God of Thunder Thor also got his official reveal during the conference. With a design completely unlike any of his recent appearances, Thor is a chunky Vanguard unit, the Tank class in Marvel Rivals, which is very interesting considering that his brother Loki is a Strategist while Hela is a Duelist. It is likely that the three of them will have some sort of team-up attack, likely one involving Thor’s lightning.

What’s more exciting, though, is that players who have access to the Closed Beta Test for Marvel Rivals won’t have to wait long to try these new heroes. On July 27th, Marvel Rivals will add both Thor and Jeff to the CBT in a patch, giving all players two new characters to use for the remainder of the Beta Test.
Marvel Rivals doesn’t have an official release date but the Closed Beta Test is still ongoing. The Beta will end on August 5th.
