Mafia: The Old Country Announced as Prequel in Mafia Series

It was 2016 when Mafia III came out, the third and most recent entry in the Mafia game series. For years, it has been known that a fourth game has been in the works, specifically a prequel set in Sicily. Now, it has been confirmed that this prequel really is happening. The fourth entry in the Mafia series has been given a title: Mafia: The Old Country. Not only that, but the first details have been revealed to get fans of the Mafia series excited about the newest upcoming game.

Mafia: The Old Country will indeed be set in 1900s Sicily, making it a prequel to the original trilogy of games. The first game, Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven (or Mafia: Definitive Edition for the remake), was set in the 1930s. The games that followed, Mafia II and Mafia III, were set in the 1940s/50s and 1960s respectively. There was also talk of the Mafia prequel focusing on the early days of the mafia, which has been confirmed in the description provided for Mafia: The Old Country (and also explaining the title given). It talks about “uncovering the origins of organized crime, with a gritty mob story set in 1900s Sicily’s brutal underworld.” The game also describes the era as “dangerous and unforgiving”.
