M. Night Shyamalan's 'Knock at the Cabin' Gets a Trailer

M. Night Shyamalan’s (The Sixth Sense, Split) new film, Knock at the Cabin, has released its first trailer. The director’s first feature since 2021’s Old, Knock at the Cabin’s trailer shows Shyamalan to once more be back at using the conventions of the thriller to experiment with his own ideas of what the genre should be.

The official plot description on IMDB reads as so:

While vacationing, a girl and her parents are taken hostage by armed strangers who demand that the family make a choice to avert the apocalypse.

A simple premise in itself, the trailer identifies Knock at the Cabin to be an exercise in home-invasion cinema. Yet, it does not stand as that alone. There is also a cult element to the film that suggests an interesting direction for the narrative to take.

The film is based in the 2018 novel by Paul G. Tremblay called The Cabin at the End of the World. Screenwriting credits have been shared by Shyamalan, Steve Desmond, and Michael Sherman. The latter two writers have credits on shorts but no previous features which suggests the opportunity for fresh new voices to make themselves known.

The cast is also stacked with the likes of Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Rupert Grint (Harry Potter), Jonathan Groff (Hamilton), Ben Aldridge (Fleabag), and many others.

The trailer paints a picture of the familiar while also using a sense of the unknown to create a world that could be truly interesting.

However, we shall have to wait and see what comes our way when Knock at the Cabin releases in theatres on February 3rd 2023.
