Little Nightmares III Has Been Officially Announced

A new Little Nightmares has been announced and can expect release sometime in 2024. While the original developers have taken a step back from this installment, what’s revealed so far looks promising. The official trailer unpacks lore and gameplay showcasing what’s in store for fans.

Little Nightmares III Has Been Officially AnnouncedLittle Nightmares III has been announced at Gamescom 2023. Debuting in April 2017, Little Nightmares sets us in a strange and mysterious world as small people escaping giant threats. Players explored the first horror puzzle-platformer as Six, a hungry girl in a yellow raincoat escaping the Maw. Following was a twisted prequel within Little Nightmares II in February 2021. There we aid Mono, a boy wearing a paper bag on his head escaping alongside Six.

We discover that Little Nightmares III will have a different front line with the same playstyle. Here we explore Nowhere as two playables named: Low and Alone. This variation plans on allowing users to either play solo with AI assist or online co-op. While not open to pre-order just yet, we’ll see this available to play on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PS4.

Switch in Development Teams

Originally developed by Tarsier Studios, this third game instead is in production under Supermassive Games. They can be best recognized for their titles: Until Dawn, The Quarry, and more. This swap is not too far fetched as they also had a hand in the making of Little Nightmares II. During an interview with Cerealkillerz at Gamescom early this week, Wayne Garland addresses the concerns.

“Our love for the franchise, our experience for horror and our roots in 2D platformers and side scrollers was kind of a match for us.”
– Wayne Garland, director of Supermassive Games

Subtle Callbacks

Exact playtime has not been determined, but many secrets within the trailer have fans theorizing. As mentioned we adventure through Nowhere, a desert land where there are seemingly no inhabitants other than one confirmed antagonist: Monster Baby. This is the largest enemy notated in the franchise thus far. It crushes buildings and has the ability to turn others to stone. Very similar to the eye from the first game’s playthrough, we can anticipate more lore regarding its significance.

Another mystery lies in the cracked mirror that appears frequently in this teaser. Some have speculated it could represent The Lady, the final boss who also appears in the first game. It could be argued that this falls within III’s mechanics as we see Low and Alone traveling through mirrors in the same fashion as Little Nightmares II’s static TVs.
