It Takes 7 Months to Get a Legendary Skin in Overwatch 2

Overwatch 2 has had a pretty shaky launch, between server issues, DDoS attacks, worries over the new F2P model and more. However, now that people can actually play the game, players have quickly realised how long it will take to grind enough currency for a Legendary skin. Unfortunately, it is a very long time.

It Takes 7 Months to Get a Legendary Skin in Overwatch 2

Overwatch 2 players have discovered how long it will take to earn a Legendary skin for free, and it has left a sour taste in the mouths of many.

Not even a week old, Overwatch 2 is already struggling through many different points of criticism and ridicule. From its buggy launch to worries about its monetisation to the complete gutting of the original Overwatch, the game has languished in a sea of controversy. You can find our coverage of the game’s rocky start here on KeenGamer.

Now, players have found another pin to attach to Overwatch 2’s infamy. It will take normal players up to 7 months to acquire a Legendary Skin for free.

Legendary Skins in Overwatch 2 cost Overwatch Coins to purchase. This is after Blizzard decided to move away from Loot Boxes for the sequel. There are 2 main ways to get this currency. The first is that you buy it outright (with 500 coins equating to about $5). On the other hand, you can earn them through weekly challenges. You can earn up to 60 Coins each week this way by completing 11 weekly challenges.

However, players were dissatisfied to find that the price of Legendary skins had also been raised from 1000 coins to 1900 coins. In essence, this means that a single Legendary Skin will take a regular player over 31 weeks to get or just about 7-8 months.

Sites like Reddit and Twitter have been abuzz with discussion and critique over the change as they discuss the change in price and how stingy the system seems. To some, it seems like another piece of Overwatch that has been stripped back to reveal something much hollower.

This change is very likely due to the change to a F2P game in line with other offerings like Fortnite or Apex Legends. Although, when the competition is offering either paid currency in their Battle Passes or what many consider to be higher quality items for sale, it is certainly raising some eyebrows at Blizzard’s decision. It doesn’t change the fact that many feels like the price is simply too high and the cost too steep compared to how Overwatch 1 was.

Pair this news with everything else that Overwatch 2 is facing right now – from locking out players with a certain phone plan or issues with account merging – and it certainly is another bad look for Blizzard.

Overwatch 2 is available for Xbox, PlayStation and PC. Look out for our review sometime later this month.
