Gigantic, Motiga’s Dead MOBA, Returns With Gigantic: Rampage Edition

Gigantic, the cult classic MOBA Hero Shooter which was shut down in 2018, has been miraculously revived with the announcement of Gigantic: Rampage Edition, a new, complete version of the game which is launching later this year. The Rampage Edition promises the return of all of everything from the original release and more, including crossplay.

After almost 6 years since it was delisted and discontinued, Motiga’s cult classic MOBA Gigantic has been officially revived with Gigantic: Rampage Edition. This brand-new edition of Gigantic is being published by Gearbox and developed by Abstraction Games. The news comes after a surprise announcement and teaser trailer drop to the official Gearbox and Xbox YouTube channels

According to the official Steam page for Gigantic: Rampage Edition, this version of the game is set to bring “Everything from the original Gigantic and more!” The original roster of 23 heroes are all returning alongside two new heroes called Roland and Kajir. Additionally, there will be two new maps – the breezy seaside town of Picaro Bay and the heavy industrial district Heaven’s Ward – and a wide variety of cosmetics to unlock by progressing your heroes, including some not from the original game.

Furthermore, Gigantic: Rampage Edition is going to support crossplay between PC, PlayStation and Xbox after the original was only available on Microsoft Windows and Xbox One. With crossplay on the table, players from any platform will be able to team up and jump into matches with friends. There are also promises of free updates post-launch, including a Ranked Mode and new hero skins.

Gigantic in Name, Gigantic in Nature

Gigantic was originally launched in July of 2017 after extensive alpha and beta tests which started back in 2014. However, despite having a cult fanbase, favourable critic reviews and a unique approach to the MOBA genre, Gigantic failed to pick up steam and the servers for the game were discontinued on July 31st 2018, only a year after its official release. This also resulted in the closure of Motiga, the studio behind Gigantic

However, that wasn’t the end as many dedicated Gigantic players have been keeping the game, and community, alive on private servers. This was then followed, years later, by a surprise revival in late 2023 when Perfect Worlds Entertainment, the original publishers of Gigantic and subsidiaries to Gearbox Entertainment (who is now owned by the infamous Embracer Group), made the game available once again via a special two-day throwback campaign via the Arc launcher. This bizarre momentary revival of a game that had been dead for over half a decade certainly raised more than a few eyebrows, with many hopeful that it would result in a full relaunch of the title down the line.

The announcement of the Gigantic: Rampage Edition comes only four months after that throwback weekend and while fervent Gigantic players may have been able to see the Rampage Edition announcement coming, the fact that the game is returning in full force, with new content, must be a dream come true.

Gigantic: Rampage Edition launches on April 9th on Steam, the Epic Games Store, Arc, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4 and PS5. It will retail for $19.99 and players can request access to the Mission 202 Beta Playtest, which is set to begin on February 22nd, on the Gigantic: Rampage Edition Steam Page
