Genshin Impact Version 4.1 Livestream: Fontaine Expansion, 3rd Anniversary Event and Free Primogems

The Special Program for Genshin Impact 4.1 just concluded, giving us a better look at everything new coming to game in a few weeks time. This includes two brand new 5-Star characters from Fontaine, including the long awaited appearance of a Cryo Catalyst character, new Fontaine story and exploration content and what Travelers can obtain from the 3rd Anniversary celebrations.

Genshin Impact Version 4.1 Livestream: Fontaine Expansion, 3rd Anniversary Event and Free Primogems

Genshin Impact just held one of their monthly livestreams for the next upcoming version update, Version 4.1, which will enter the acclaimed gacha game later this month. This version update aims to continue the strong start set by the newest region, Fontaine, featuring new sections to the Fontaine Archon Quest, several new areas to explore with new enemies and bosses to fight and a host of events to compete in, including rewards related to the 3rd Anniversary of Genshin Impact.

Before we go any further, though, let’s go over the free Primogem codes which popped up during the livestream. By entering all 3 codes, you can net yourself 300 Primogems and a bunch of different character and weapon upgrade materials. Just be sure to enter these codes as quickly as you can, as they will expire and become unusable over the next 24 hours.

First things first, Genshin Impact 4.1 will feature two brand new Fontaine 5-Stars: Wriothesley, the Duke and arm of the law in Fontaine, and Neuvillette, Iudex of the Fontaine court.

After 3 long years, Genshin Impact is finally receiving its first Cryo Catalyst character in the form of Wriothesley who, in terms of playstyle, is far more like Heizou than any other Catalyst user. His Normal Attacks will feature a string of short-ranged punches which deal Cryo DMG and be combo’d into one another even after sprinting. While under the effects of his Elemental Skill, Wriothesley will sacrifice some of his HP with each hit, buffing his Normal and Charged Attacks in the process.

Similar to Wriothesley, Neuvillette is also a 5-Star Catalyst user, although he belongs (predictably) to the Hydro element. He’s a more standard Catalyst user with ranged Hydro attacks. Neuvilette’s main gimmick comes from his Charged Attacks which can transform into a massive Hydro beam that blasts out in front of Neuvilette. Additionally, Neuvilette’s many abilities are a constant of Sourcewater Droplets which can be absorbed to increase the speed of the Charged Attack Seal (which lets him use the powered-up version faster) and heal him on contact.

Next, we’ll go over what Character Event Wishes are available in Genshin Impact V4.1. During Phase 1, players can obtain either the new Hydro 5-Star Catalyst Neuvillete or the fan-favourite Liyue exorcist Hu Tao. Meanwhile, in phase 2, this will change to the new 5-Star Cryo Catalyst Wriothesley and the Archon of Mondstadt Venti. New signature weapons for Neuvillete and Wriothesley will also be available on the Weapon Event Wish while their respective character is still running.

The other major thing in Genshin Impact Version 4.1 is a big expansion to Fontaine, the latest region to be added to the game. This expansion will include new story content, with Acts III and IV of the Fontaine Archon Quest coming online, as well as several brand new areas for Travelers to explore both in the overworld and underwater. The most interesting new areas to explore include an abandoned stretch of Fontaine mountains which were transformed after an experiment as well as a deep underwater prison where most of 4.1’s Archon Quest will take place.

These new areas will also feature two brand new World Bosses which players must contend with. Above ground, Travelers can find and encounter the Experimental Field Generator, a mysterious machine left behind by the Fontaine Research Institute of Kinetic Energy Engineering, the same group responsible for the exploded mountains. Meanwhile, deep below the waters, there’s also the Millennial Pearl Seahorse World Boss. This enemy has descended from Bubble Seahorses to become an apex predator of the underwater realm. Both Wriothesley and Neuvillete will likely require some of the boss materials from either of these bosses so keep a stack of Fragile Resin handy if you plan on pulling for either of them.

Aside from the big bad World Bosses, 4.1 also features some new regular enemies to contend with, namely two new Fatui enemies who seem based on the Knave, Arlecchino, in terms of design and attack type. You can find these predominately in the mountains affected by the Fontaine Research Institute’s experiments.

Finally, let’s touch on the new events coming in V4.1 of Genshin Impact. In 4.1, Genshin will be celebrating its 3rd Anniversary with players and, if you’ve been present for the 1st or 2nd Anniversary events, you’ll be very familiar with the kind of rewards players will be receiving. Firstly, there is the Bathing in Flowing Moonlight Log-In Event where you can obtain a bunch of level-up materials as well as 10 Intertwined Fates for your Wishes. Secondly, Travelers can also claim 1,600 Primogems, 4 Fragile Resin, the Itty Bitty Octobaby minion and a commemorative gadget which sprays bubbles via the in-game mail as part of the celebrations.

Aside from the Anniversary, Genshin Impact 4.1 will still feature several more traditional events. The main flagship event of this version is Waterborne Poetry, a Liyue event involving the charismatic and beloved pairing of Venti and Hu Tao, who also make their appearance on the version’s Character Event Wishes. This event serves as a union between the two nations in the form of a poetry gathering: while people of the two nations get together to think up some brilliant and verbose lyricism, you’ll be tasked with the usual suite of event activities including a combat challenge, photo taking mini-game and more. Complete them all and you can earn the event-exclusive weapon Ballad of the Boundless and its refinement materials, the Dandelion Bookmark.

With regards to quality of life changes, a big one is coming in the form of an update to the Commission’s system. Alongside the system we have now where you can complete four random daily commissions around the map for upwards of 60 Primogems per day, we’ll also be getting an Encounter Point Stage Reward system. By completing quests, opening treasure chests, collecting items such as Oculi and participating in events, you will earn Encounter Points. You will use these to earn an additional 40 Primogems per day. This system is a lot more like how Honkai: Star Rail, Hoyoverse’s other extremely popular gacha game, handles daily commissions and rewards.
