Summer has arrived on the shores of Teyvat once more in Genshin Impact Version 4.8, which means a new annual summer adventure is just on the horizon. Genshin’s summer events are easily some of their most feature-rich and fun-filled Version updates and Version 4.8, Summertide Scales and Tales, looks to be no different. Between a new limited-time location to explore, two fancy new fantasy skins, the ability to earn Kirara for free, and more, Version 4.8 is shaping up to be another all-time great. We also were lucky enough to see another look at Natlan, the upcoming Land of Pyro.
First and foremost, before we go any further, here are the three Version 4.8 Special Program Redemption Codes which all Travelers can redeem for 300 free Primogems. Act fast, though, as they expire 24 hours after the conclusion of the Special Program.

Starting with a look at this version’s newest character, Version 4.8 will see the arrival of Emilie, a new 5-star Dendro unit from Fontaine. Wielding a Polearm as well as numerous apothecary devices, Emilie is a famous perfumer who apparently “bottles secrets” and has a secret life as a forensic cleaner, where her chemical knowledge is a massive aid in cleaning up grisly crime scenes. She’s an aloof figure, one obsessed with scents and smells to refine her craft.
In combat, Emilie is our first dedicated Burn support, one of the few Dendro elements which is lacking. Her Elemental Skill creates a Lumidoice Case on the field which will continuously deal Dendro DMG to any nearby opponents: enemies under the Burning condition will create “Scents” which power up the Lumidoice Case, with each Scent increasing the Lumidouce Case’s DMG. Furthermore, Emilie’s Elemental Burst will create an empowered level 3 Lumidouce Case, stowing any Cases currently on the field similar to Dehya’s Skill and Burst.
In terms of the Version 4.8 Character Event Wishes in Genshin Impact, phase one will see two of Summertide’s leading ladies, Navia and Nilou, take centre stage as featured 5-star units. Meanwhile, in phase two, they will be replaced by the brand new character Emilie and fan-favourite Hydro unit Yelan.
This year, the summer event will take us to a new fairy tale world, Simulanka, a beautiful new location based on a fantasy storybook. Charged with defeating a fearsome dragon who is terrorising the land, the Traveler, as well as Navia, Nilou, Kirara, and, surprisingly, Wanderer, must all explore the strange world of Simulanka and put a stop to the dragon’s schemes. Simulanka is a land ripped straight from a storybook. From the animal citizens, who all appear to be origami creations, to the child-like structures which litter the land, Simulanka looks to be another amazing place for Travelers to explore.
Like all of the other Summer events, Simulanka will only be available throughout Version 4.8: once Natlan arrives in Version 5.0, Travelers will be unable to access or explore Simulanka. As such, make sure to complete everything you want here during 4.8.
Summer events in Genshin Impact always mean one thing: new outfits. And Version 4.8 is no different as both Nilou and Kirara will receive new outfits during the Summertide Scales event. Nilou’s outfit- Breeze of Saaba – combines her resemblance to Sumeru’s Goddess of Flowers and a classic fairy tale princess to deliver a stunning new outfit. During Version 4.8, Nilou’s outfit will be discounted, so be sure to snag it early if you’re a fan.
Meanwhile, Kirara’s outfit is a massive departure from her usual outfit, putting her in the shoes of a (literal) cat burglar. The Phantom in Boots outfit has Kirara don the elegant attire of a phantom thief, complete with a stylish new hat. Additionally, like Kaeya’s Skin in last year’s Summer Event, Kirara’s outfit can be earned for free during Version 4.8 by finding special collectables hidden around Simulanka. Once Version 4.8 ends, Kirara’s outfit will join all of the others as a paid skin.
Alongside the limited-time land of Simulanka, Genshin Impact Version 4.8 will also be home to several summery activities and events. The Summertime Scales and Tales event will have four new gameplay modes, with some being exploration-based and others being more combat-heavy. Furthermore, by playing through the Summertime Scales Event, all players will be able to get a free copy of Kirara, perfect for those who also want to use her shiny new skin.
The Imaginarium Theatre is also set to receive a small, but meaningful, update as new Echo Challenge activities will be available in the Theatre Hall. Echo Challenges are tied to specific characters and ask you to complete small, but tricky, sequences based on that unit’s Skills and abilities. Succeeding in these Challenges will let you unlock that respective character’s Echo, a new special cosmetic which will add a personalised trail behind the character when they run. The initial set of Echo Challenges in 4.8 includes the likes of Jean, Diluc, Qiqi, Kirara, and Ningguang
Of course, that’s not all for 4.8 as we’ll get a break-breaker-themed mini-game event, a new Asagiri photo-taking event, another Energy Amplifier combat event, and more. These events will all award Primogems and various other rewards like character and weapon upgrade materials.
Lastly, for Version 4.8, several vital system optimisations are arriving. Firstly, Encounter Points can now be stored, allowing you to use them on future days for quick Commission completion: to unlock access to these stored Encounter Points, you simply need to spend Resin. In conjunction with this, the respawn timer for World Bosses has been reduced to just 10 seconds, down from 2 minutes. There’s also a new way to quickly hide your HUD and a new way to replay conversations.
The Version 4.8 Special Program concluded with yet another sneak peek at the Land of Pyro, Natlan, the next location we’ll be visiting on our journey through Teyvat. In the teaser, we got to see three brand new Natlan characters, all of whom had a special way of getting around the Land of Pyro’s hazardous terrain: the first was able to summon a massive Beyblade-like drill for both mobility and offence, while the second could ride on a shark like a surfboard and the latter was able to use his own version of Sumeru’s Grappling Hook system.
Genshin Impact Version 4.8 launches on July 17th.
