Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024: An Overview of Everything Announced

If you missed Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024, here's a quick rundown of everything that was announced on August 20th. Highlights include Borderlands 4, a new Indiana Jones game, the official reveal of the Mafia prequel, and lots more.

Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024 An Overview of Everything Announced

Gamescom Opening Night Live once again took place this year, on August 20th. Although Gamescom is running from the 20th through to the 25th, it’s the first night where all the big announcements in the gaming world are made. You can expect new games being announced, updates for existing games, and new trailer drops for games previously announced. A lot of announcements are made during this night (this year, for example, it was a total of 47), so it’s a big night.

Although Opening Night Live has been and gone, if you did happen to miss it and are wondering what was revealed, we’ve compiled a quick rundown of every announcement made.

Borderlands 4

First up, we got a first look courtesy of a teaser trailer for looter shooter Borderlands 4, plus a release window of 2025. The game will be made available on PC, Xbox Series X | S, and PS5.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

It’s already been stated that the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is coming October 25th, 2024, we did at least get a new trailer showcasing some gameplay at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024.

Goat Simulator Remastered

You know that crazy Goat Simulator game? Well, it’s getting a remaster for PC, Xbox Series X | S, and PS5! This includes updated graphics and all DLC. It should be coming later this year, but it hasn’t been given a specific release date yet, so stay tuned.

Persona 3 Reload DLC

Persona 3 Reload is getting some new DLC soon, titled Episode Aegis, which is coming 10th September. The trailer demonstrates a boss fight that is part of the new DLC.

Dying Light: The Beast

Dying Light is getting a standalone game titled Dying Light: The Beast, a zombie adventure game with a new area to play in. There’s currently no release date.

Black Myth: Wukong

Black Myth: Wukong was actually released the same day of Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024, but a launch trailer was put out for the action RPG.

DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO

DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO has previously been announced, so this wasn’t a new reveal for Gamescom, but we did get a trailer to watch. The game is set to release October 11th this year.

King of Meat

Here’s another game reveal on Gamescom Opening Night Live, King of Meat, a party hack n’ slash game. This one didn’t get a release date, but keep an eye out.

Lynked: Banner of the Spark

If you enjoy playing Steam’s early access games, here’s a new one for you: Lynked: Banner of the Spark, which is coming 22nd October 2024. This one is a co-op action game – with hack n’ slash, roguelike missions, and town building.

Lost Records: Bloom & Rage

This game’s announcement has previously been made, but was delayed due to the developers not wanting it to clash with the release of Life is Strange: Double Exposure. However, Lost Records: Bloom & Rage is still set to get a release in early 2025, and Gamescom dropped a preview trailer. Lost Records will be released in chapters, with the first on 18th February, then the second following not long after on 18th March.

No More Room in Hell 2

This is one if you’re looking for more big co-op games. No More Room in Hell 2 can host up to 8 co-op players, out to give everyone a terrifying experience with this action horror survival game set in a zombie apocalypse.

ARC Raiders

ARC Raiders is another game set for a 2025 release, plus you get the chance to playtest this Fall. The playtest for this post-apocalyptic action-survival game will take place between October 24th to the 27th. If you’re interested, make sure to sign up on Steam, where you will be randomly selected. We also got news that instead of being free-to-play, ARC Raiders will in fact be priced at $40.

Infinity Nikki

Infinity Nikki is a cozy open world adventure game with the feature of dressing the titular character Nikki up in different costumes. Gamescom gave us a new trailer to look at. Also, you can sign up for the closed beta via their official website. You’ll get selected based on responses in the questionnaire when signing up. There isn’t yet an end time for the closed beta, so get signing up if this grabs your interest.

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2

A new trailer for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 dropped at Gamescom Opening Night Live. The game is currently available for pre-order for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X | S, and will come out on September 9th 2024. Plus, if you get the Gold or Ultra Edition, you get the game 4 days early!

Predecessor

Predecessor is another team-based game with third-person strategy and action gameplay. Predecessor is totally free-to-play right now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

Path of Exile 2

Path of Exile has had a second game made, Path of Exile 2, which is set to be released as early access from November 15th 2024, available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X | S.

Dune: Awakening

If you’re a fan of Dune, then look out for the Dune: Awakening game that’s coming out on PC in early 2025. The trailer showcased the gameplay.

REANIMAL

Those familiar with the Little Nightmares games should look out for this newest title from the same company. REANIMAL is a horror adventure game for the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X | S where a brother and sister must go through hell and back to save their missing friends. This one doesn’t have a release date set yet.

Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact isn’t a new game, but it does have a new Natlan update. Plus, good news for Xbox players: Genshin Impact is coming to Xbox Series X | S and Xbox Game Pass on November 20th, 2024!

Monster Hunter Wilds

This is another release for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X | S. Monster Hunter Wilds is looking to a 2025 release date as the latest in the Monster Hunter series. Get ready to get hunting!

FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves

The FATAL FURY series goes as far back as the early 1990s in the glory days of arcade games. Now, after 26 years since the last release, there’s a new title: FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves. The release date has been stated as April 21st, 2025. It will be available on PC through Steam, Epic Games, PlayStation 4 | 5, and Xbox Series X | S.

Mecha BREAK

If you like battling mechas, then look no further than Mecha BREAK, which allows you to customize your own mechas and fight with them against other war machines. You can pre-register, wishlight, and sign up for playtests. The game should be releasing sometime in 2025.

Monument Valley 3

Guess what? There’s a new Monument Valley game coming out: Monument Valley 3! This game is coming to Netflix Games on December 10th this year.

Civilization VII

There’s another Civilization game on the horizon: the seventh in the series. Civilization VII will be launching on February 11th, 2025 for multiple platforms, including PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, PlayStation consoles, Xbox consoles, and Nintendo Switch.

Starfield: Shattered Space

Shattered Space is actually an Expansion for Starfield, the first major one, in fact. It’s coming out September 30th, 2024. Shattered Space is also included in the Starfield Premium Edition and Premium Edition Upgrade, plus the Starfield Constellation Edition. It will be available for PC and Xbox Series X | S.

Marvel Rivals

For superhero fans, there’s Marvel Rivals, a team-based PvP shooter that’s coming December 6th, 2024 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X | S. Also note that it is going to be free-to-play!

Secret Level

This one is slightly different from the others. Secret Level is an animated video game anthology series that is premiering on December 10th this year on Prime Video. It will feature 15 short episodes, each one focusing on a different established game.

Age of Mythology: Retold

Age of Mythology: Retold is a remastering of the original 2002 release Age of Mythology, set to come out on PC and Xbox Series X | S on September 4th, 2024. It comes in a Standard Edition or Premium Edition. The latter lets you play a week early.

Towerborne

Here’s another game for the PC and Xbox consoles. Towerborne is a side-scrolling action-adventure game that is set to be free-to-play from September 10th, 2024 as an early access release.

Delta Force: Hawk Ops

Delta Force: Hawk Ops will be made available for PC, Xbox consoles, and PlayStation consoles. The game will also now be known as Delta Force

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II

The action RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance II has a set release date for February 11th, 2025, releasing on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X | S. From August 21st, pre-orders are now open. By pre-ordering, you unlock an exclusive quest that comes with exclusive rewards for completing it.

Zenless Zone Zero

Zenless Zone Zero is a fairly new game, releasing in July 2024. Now there’s a new update coming out, complete with a new region to explore.

Honkai: Star Rail

There’s new stuff for the established Honkai: Star Rail as well: a new character plus a collab with Fate/stay night.

Batman: Arkham Shadow

Batman: Arkham Shadow is for VR players, specifically Meta Quest 3. The eighth installment in the Batman: Arkham series will serve as a sequel to Batman: Arkham Origins.

Little Nightmares III

I mentioned Little Nightmares earlier when talking about REANIMAL. It turns out that Little Nightmares is getting a new entry as well, Little Nightmares III! It will be available for PC, PlayStation consoles, Xbox consoles, and Nintendo Switch sometime in 2025.

Herdling

This alpine-adventure game coming to PC is one to watch out for. Herdling has you controlling herds of beasts as you navigate mountainous paths and eerie encounters to reach the summit. There’s not yet a release date, but you can wishlist it on Steam. 

Masters of Albion

Masters of Albion is another PC game (and Mac as well) that falls under the God Game category, with lots of building and strategy involved. Like Herdling, there’s currently no release date, but you can add it to your wishlist if it catches your eye.

Squid Game: Unleashed

This should interest Squid Game fans, as Squid Game: Unleashed is set to be released via Netflix Games (the same as Monument Valley 3). If you want more Squid Game, Season 2 will be dropping on Netflix on December 26th, 2024, plus the final season will arrive in 2025. Squid Game: The Challenge Season 2 is also currently in production.

Unknown 9: Awakening

Unknown 9: Awakening has previously been announced. However, at Gamescom 2024, we did get a release date reveal of October 18th, 2024, and this action-adventure game will be coming out on PC, Xbox consoles, and PlayStation consoles.

Arena Breakout: Infinite

Arena Breakout: Infinite is a shooter RPG game that is currently free-to-play on PC and still in early access. However, that will soon change, as the game will get its full release soon.

Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred

The first Expansion for Diablo IV, titled Vessel of Hatred, is set to get released on October 8th, 2024. You can get Diablo IV now on PC, Xbox consoles, and PlayStation consoles.

The First Berserker: Khazan

The First Berserker: Khazan is also going to be available on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation, described as a “hardcore action RPG”. It’s got a release window of 2025. Plus, there’s a closed beta test between the 11th and 20th of October, but only for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S consoles.

Ara: History Untold

This turn-based strategy game will be available for PC from September 24th, 2024. There are a few editions to choose from for Ara: History Untold: Standard, Deluxe, and Premium. With the Steam-exclusive Premium Edition, you not only get the base game, but also the Exclusive Leader Collection, Modern Leader Skin Set, Digital Art Book, Game Soundtrack, and Gilded Leader Skin Set.

Dark and Darker Mobile Release

Dark and Darker is currently available as a Steam-exclusive free-to-play game, but not for much longer, as it will soon be made available for mobile platforms as well. 

Floatopia

Floatopia has been promoted as a potential rival/alternative to Animal Crossing, and has been garnering interest. It’s not out until 2025, but you can pre-register. It seems to be set for release on a few platforms, including PC, PS5, Xbox Series X | S, and Nintendo Switch.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

Indiana Jones fans should be attracted to this soon-to-be-launched game, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, a first-person action-adventure. It’s set between the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade (aka movies 1 and 3). It’s releasing on PC and Xbox Series X | S on December 9th, 2024. However, PlayStation 5 players won’t be missing out, but they’ll have to wait until Spring 2025 to get their hands on it via PlayStation.

Mafia: The Old Country

Finally, there’s this one, Mafia: The Old Country, aka the long-awaited fourth entry and prequel in the Mafia series. This one will be based in 1900s Sicily, focusing on the early days of the mafia. It will release on PC, Xbox Series X | S, and PS5 sometime next year.

And that’s everything that was announced at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024! That was a big long list of games. It’s probably a lot to digest, but hopefully you’ll come away with interest in at least some of the games listed from this night. Some are already available, while many others are yet to be released, but keep your eyes open for more news on these titles.
