The extremely famous battle royale, Fortnite, is coming back to iOS. Epic officially announced that Fortnite is returning to iPhone and iPad devices in 2024, however only in Europe. Although those outside Europe will still have to rely on Xbox Cloud Gaming or GeForce Now for playing the game, this would be exciting news to see iOS players enjoying playing Fortnite on their mobiles.
Apple has changed its App Store policies to comply with the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA). It will be implemented in March, the same month as the launch of Chapter 5 Season 2. Based on the DMA, iPhone users can download apps through third-party app stores. Fortnite users will be able to download the game via an upcoming Epic Store on iOS.
Remember Fortnite on iOS?
How bout we bring that back.
Later this year Fortnite will return in Europe on iOS through the @EpicGames Store.
(shoutout DMA – an important new law in the EU making this possible). @Apple, the world is watching. pic.twitter.com/VdHWTe8i1c— Fortnite (@FortniteGame) January 25, 2024
The conflict between Epic Games and Apple dates back to August 2020 when Apple decided to remove Fortnite from the App Store. Epic created its own in-app payment system in the App Store while they should have paid Apple a 30-percent cut. Apple quickly responded and declared that this action doesn’t follow their standards. As a result, they banned Fortnite from their store, and Epic Games has been unable to update it.
Fortnite is currently in Chapter 5 Season 1 with tons of interesting things to offer. A brand-new map with many entertaining POIs, particularly Peter Griffin. The Medallions mechanism is a unique feature that can be collected from bosses around the map for automatically recovering your shield. A new Weapon Mods system gives you the chance to upgrade new types of guns in the way you feel more confident with. Also, Epic recently updated the season with the addition of the Metal Gear protagonist, Solid Snake.
