During the State of Unreal showcase at the GDC 2024, Steve Allison, the General Manager at Epic Games, announced that the store will be coming to other platforms. By the end of this year, players can expect to see Epic Games Store on Android and iOS as well. This move to mobile devices will crown Epic Games Store as the first multiplatform game store. With the release, Epic Games “will work across Android, iOS, PC, and macOS” as stated through Unreal Engine’s official website. The store didn’t announce a specific release date yet. It is only known that Epic Games Store’s appearance on Android and iOS will happen this year.
Regarding the app’s interface, Epic Games shared along with the official announcement some “concept only” pictures of how the app might look like. The pictures include a download page for Fortnite. This implies that players will be able to download the popular battle royale game on their mobile devices. Allison shared that along with Fortnite, other third-party partners expressed their interest to join the store’s launch. Other details about the release include Epic Games promising in their announcement through X that the app will have the “same fair terms.” It will also be “available to all developers.”

More News for Epic Games Store
Allison also added that the mobile store will launch with self-publishing tools that will help mobile developers release their apps. Since the launch of Epic Games Store in 2018, the company has been prioritizing developers. They offer a 88/12 revenue share where 88% of all revenue going back to developers themselves. As the mobile store expands in the future, Epic Games Store’s players and developers programs will also be available. As Epic Games continues its development, one hopes that no more layoffs like the company’s last year’s mass layoffs will take place.
The showcase included other great news for Epic Games. Not only is Epic Games Store coming to Android and iOS, but the store also had more than 270 million player accounts in 2023. The numbers shared included how players spent on games available on Epic Games Store around $950 millions. They also announced that in 2025 a Fortnite season developed by the Unreal Editor for Fortnite will be released.
