September 24, 2024. Mortal Kombat’s DLC Khaos Reign releases, and with the whole new paid story, there is a lot of free content and changes for players old and new.
One of the biggest critiques after Mortal Kombat 11 was the lack of a Tower of Time mode. As well as commentary about Mortal Kombat 1 Invasion’s mode was its longevity in comparison. How long would we continue to get new content, and how would NetherRealm future-proof the mode?
Towers of Time
During the most recent Kombat casts, released on Sept 19, the host emphasized that there would be two rows or nine persistent towers active in the Towers of Time.
The first row includes three persistent towers and has a simple arcade tower, allowing you to jump in and fight against a selection of fighters and their kameos. A seasonal tower that was originally located in the Mesa Select.
The final tower in the first row is a bit special. For those who have missed past Invasion seasons, you will be able to go into a tower and earn those previously featured palettes. It will cost you some of your gold koins in the end. But this is a massive improvement to the game, one that fans have been asking for since the game’s release of Invasions, and we knew how the live service mode would play out.
The most interesting inclusion in the Tower of Time is the third row. The third row will be dedicated to special and seasonal events. This first event will allow players to try out the DLC characters if they haven’t picked them up already.
We are also seeing some changes to the seasonal shop. From now on, each character will have a select number of brutalities, which players can purchase with the seasonal currency. Unlike the skin pallets that come seasonally, these brutalities will always be available for those to purchase.
This isn’t the only decision that NetherRealm Studios has made to make the currencies the Mortal Kombat players have worked for relevant again.
Season 8: The Dark Dragon
From what we know about season 8, the main antagonist will be Lui Kang. Season 8’s Lui Kang is referred to as The Dark Dragon. In this timeline, we face a Lui Kang who has essentially replaced all of the known fighters with constructs like Geras.
During the Kombat Cast, Mortal Kombat revealed the new thumbnail for season 8’s seasonal shop, showcasing a few of the new palettes that will be available this upcoming season.
Dragon Crystals
We can finally earn Dragon Crystals more consistently. Originally, We would only get Dragon crystals at certain benchmarks, such as getting characters to level 20 and to level 30.
Your profile level gets to certain milestones after the level 50 mark. Now, players will be able to earn 75 dragon crystals weekly, as well as earn a respectable amount of points towards the weekly leaderboard prizes.
On top of all of this new information about the Khaos Reign DLC, Ed Boone on X (formerly Twitter) has been posting videos showcasing the animalities coming in the new update. The most recent characters’ animality showcase were Kitana, Smoke, and Takeda.
