Destiny 2: Lightfall Release Sees Highest Player Count in Game’s History

Destiny 2: Lightfall, the latest expansion of the online first-person shooter, broke its own record for most concurrent players since the game's initial release in 2017. On the day of its release, February 28th, the online player count hit 316,651 just on Steam.

Destiny 2 Lightfall Release Sees Highest Player Count in Games HistoryDespite reports of mixed responses coming from players after the first day since the game’s release, no one can argue the fact that the launch of Destiny 2: Lightfall was a massive success. Given that the game saw it’s highest ever concurrent player numbers, it seems that the release was highly anticipated. You can see the data on the Steam Charts page.

It’s no surprise that gamers were excited for the release either, considering the all of the new content included in the expansion. Of course, it centers around an entirely new campaign involving The Witness and a “new disciple”, happening in a brand a new location in the form of the cyber-punk-esque city of Neonuma. Perhaps the most interesting new development is the introduction of a new ability called ‘Strand’ that allows players to grapple and swing through the city of Neonuma. There will also be new classes such as the ‘Titan’, a brawler type class that can summon claws of Strand for close-range attacks, and ‘Broodweaver’, a sorcerer with the ability to manipulate Strand for various attacks.
