CATAN Studio™ announced their latest standalone installment set in modern-day Catan Island. Players will be introduced to fresh strategies with a familiar gameplay foundation. CATAN: New Energies sports new gameplay elements including power plants, energy tokens, and environmental events. Present-day Catan calls for energy to sustain its growth. However, pollution looms over the delicate balance of nature vital to producing life-preserving resources and curtailing natural disasters; Players must choose between investing in clean, sustainable energies or opt for cheaper, yet environmentally damaging, fossil fuels.
“Gaming has an incredible power to reflect real-world challenges and inspire thoughtful conversations,” says Benjamin Teuber, managing director at CATAN Studios and co-designer of New Energies. He and his father, Klaus Teuber, created the gameplay design before the renowned founder died earlier this year.
