BioWare Releases New Dragon Age: Dreadwolf Trailer

BioWare has seen some rough waters lately. What with a possibly premature reveal of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf that was followed by no news in 2018, the creative director leaving Dragon Age 4‘s development “in good hands,” and more recently, the news of multiple layoffs that include writers who have been with the company for decades. But, if you’re just a gaming fan with no concern about what goes on behind the scenes or on the corporate level, then you’re likely ecstatic to hear more news about the long-awaited Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.

To celebrate the unofficially official “Dragon Age Day,” BioWare has released a new teaser trailer highlighting several areas within the realm of Thedas. These areas have been referenced in previous Dragon Age games but have not thus far been explored by players. We see glimpses of Antiva, Rivalin, and the Anderfels, with voiceovers from various characters that will likely represent their respective factions within those territories.

There is something else interesting to take from this, though; previous trailers hinted that the titular Dreadwolf was Solas from Dragon Age: Inquisition. Solas, “The Dreadwolf,” was an elven god who awoke from his long slumber to uplift his people by destroying the barrier between the magical world and the material one, effectively killing everyone who isn’t an elf. The last voiceover mentions that the whole world will soon know the peace and comfort from his reign, which doesn’t sound like Solas would say. Could this be a hint that Dragon Age: Dreadwolf will have another big bad to contend with besides Solas?

This trailer mentions that more details will be given sometime in the summer of 2024. That could be anytime between May and August, so they’re keeping their promises loose on when we’ll have more information. Then again, nowadays, most games give a broad seasonal range instead of a more concrete date and time. Still, the game has had six years since it was first announced, and at this point, fans want more. Hopefully, the next update we get on Dragon Age: Dreadwolf will be a gameplay trailer or a set timeframe for when we can expect the game to release.
