Baldur's Gate 3 Patch #5 - New Game Modes, Epilogue, Bug Fixes, and More!Having been nominated for Game of the Year, Baldur’s Gate 3 is no stranger to success. Despite this, Larian Studios refuse to sit back and kick their feet up, instead being determined to fully polish each aspect of this fantastic game. Enter patch 5, which introduces many new features as well as fixing some pesky bugs. One notable issue PS5 players were experiencing was the immense lag in Act 3, especially in the Lower City. Followers would often freeze and the player would be unable to interact with NPCs or items. Thankfully, this along with many other glitches and bugs has been dealt with and fixed. That being said, this is our summary of the Baldur’s Gate 3 patch 5.

Epilogue – Endings Remastered

Larian Studios explains it as “An entirely new section at the end of the game after the defeat of the Netherbrain that aims to provide a well-deserved sense of closure with your allies.” which sounds extremely interesting. If you ever needed a reason to replay the game for the one-millionth time, then this is it! Not only does this give you new content, but you’re also able to forge a more customized ending to suit your needs, providing you with closure and satisfaction.

New Game Modes – Increased Replayability

While most dedicated players have already beaten the game on Tactician (some even beating the entire game with a Salami), Larian Studios knew it had to step it up a notch. In comes Honour Mode, a brand-new game mode that acts as permadeath.

  • Honour Mode: Enemies are more powerful, use advanced spells, legendary actions, and are overall a bigger pain to deal with. Not only that but the entire game mode is limited to one save, meaning that if you die, it’s game over. Those fearless enough to attempt this and successfully beat the game will be rewarded with golden dice for checks and rolls.
  • Custom Mode: A liberating game mode that allows you to fully customize the entirety of your playthrough to your liking. If you want the gameplay to follow tabletop even more then you can do so!

Orin’s Loot & Inventory Management

Finally! We can loot that bloody yet charming armour off of Orin and use it to wreak havoc on Faerun. Her armour is as follows:

Mutilated Carapiece
Armour Class 10.
Formless Slaughter: You gain a +1 to Attack and Damage rolls while shapeshifting or disguised.
Faceless Masquerade: You have an Advantage on Deception checks and Persuasion checks.
Armour Class +1.

As you can deduct from the information above, this armor seems pretty solid, especially for a Druid. It may not be the best armor in the game, but boy does it look fabulous. Looking good, Astarion!

This isn’t all! Now, you can manage your companions’ inventories without having them be directly in your party. This is incredibly useful as dismissing and re-adding allies to your party can be tedious, especially in a game full of items and gear. All in all, this will help improve the flow of gameplay going forward, looking to decrease interruptions.

Bug Fixes and Additional Changes

Some other incredible changes include dynamic resolution for PS5, many performance improvements, particularly in Act III, and Korean language options. Furthermore, Larian Studios has slightly altered Minthara’s storyline, giving players a way to recruit her without committing a grove genocide. Simply knock her out during the fight at the grove and you’ll find her in Moonrise Towers. From there, you’ll be able to rescue her and recruit her into your party. This is a neat change that truly makes gameplay feel much more immersive as there are so many options, choices, and paths to follow.
